Microfilters - Also known as 'splitters'. Make sure that every piece of equipment connected to your phoneline has a microfilter attached to it, so that you broadband works correctly. If you don't know how to fit these check our Guide to Fitting Microfilters
Computer Setup - Any computer you connect to your router must have an Ethernet port available (It may be marked 'Ethernet') . Also check the computer network settings to make sure that it can 'Obtain an IP Address automatically'. Find out how to do this by reading ourNetworking Guide.
Hardware setup
- Connect the router to a microfilter using the black telephone connection lead. Connect your router to the mains power supply using the included adapter and switch on the router. Connect your PC directly to the router using one of the supplied grey Ethernet cables.
Connection setup - Open your browser and type http://192.168.1.1/ into the address field. You will be asked to enter a username and password. Enteradmin for both of these. You will now see the Quick Start configuration screen. (If you don't see the Quick Start screen you should click the Quick Start link on the left-hand menu).
- On the Quick Start web management screen the default settings are set to connecting to the standard type of broadband in the UK. You don't need to change any technical settings. (However, if you ever need to change these, choose Advanced from the menu on the left.
- On the Quick Start page type in your broadband username and password. Keep this information handy in case you need it later. When you are sure you have entered the details correctly click Finish.
Note: the correct LAN-side settings will depend on your own network. If you're unsure use the default settings. You will be asked to complete setup and given confirmation that your Internet connection has been made successfully.
Congratulations, your broadband setup is now complete!
