How to reset your Fibre modem and router

Power cycling - the controlled shutdown and switching back on of equipment - can often solve speed and connection problems with your fibre broadband service.
To power cycle the Openreach fibre modem

  1. Power off your Plusnet router
  2. Power off your Openreach fibre modem
  3. Wait for 20 seconds after they’ve both been turned off
  4. Power on your Openreach fibre modem
  5. Wait for the lights to settle, (the LAN light on your modem will only come on when you re-connect your Plusnet router)
  6. Power on your Plusnet router
  7. Wait for the lights to settle, (the power and broadband lights should turn solid green and the internet light should be green but may flash)

 To power cycle your Plusnet router (Technicolor TG582n)

  1. Shut down your computer and any devices that the router is connected to
  2. Press the Power button on the back of the router to power off the router. This is a small black button near the power cable.
  3. Wait a few seconds, then press the button again to power on the router.
  4. Wait a couple of minutes for the router to complete its start-up procedures. The Power and broadband lights should be a steady green. Wait for the internet light to come on/turn green.
  5. Finally, when the router is ready, turn on your computer and wait until the desktop has fully loaded. Then turn on your other devices.

To power cycle your Plusnet router (Netgear WNR1000)

  1. Shut down your computer and any devices that the router is connected to
  2. Press the Power button on the back of the router to power off the router. This is a small black button near the power cable.
  3. Wait a few seconds, then press the button again to power on the router.
  4. Wait a couple of minutes for the router to complete its start-up procedures. The Power and broadband lights should be a steady green. Wait for the internet light to come on/turn green. These are the 1st, 2nd and 4th lights on the front starting from the left hand side.
  5. Finally, when the router is ready, turn on your computer and wait until the desktop has fully loaded. Then turn on your other devices.
