Switch off/switch on seems to be becoming the standard method of fixing this problem instead of research into the root cause.

Just to make that a little more official, Chalbury please stop spamming kmw350's thread with unnecessary comments.
It makes Plusnet Support's work more difficult.

I thought that I was being helpful since switching off then switching on seems to cure the problem.

Any news on this Chris? The feature was removed and re-added but it has not fixed the problem.
*#234# still tells me 'caller IDs will be displayed'; I have a new phone; I've tried form the master socket, but I am still not seeing any phone numbers displayed.

Really sorry to hear that. We're probably going to need to go through looking at a fault, although I'd like Matthew to take a look first to see his thoughts. I'm off all week next week so will ask someone else on the team to pick this up for you.

No, unfortunately there is no change at my end.
The situation has been the same since the power cut a couple of weeks ago when I first reported it.
If I dial *#234# it says 'caller id will be displayed', but they are not.
I have tried 3 different phones, including from the main socket.

Thanks Matthew,  a BT engineer has just been to my house and could not find any fault on the line, I have updated the support ticket to that effect. He suggested the problem must be at the 'provider's end' so I hope there is something else you can look at.

The engineer not being able to fault has stumped me a little.

The disconnects have settled down, seems back to normal,
BUT still no caller ID display, I hope something can be done to get this working again, please don't give up on it, I was SICK of all those &*%$ PPI calls and I do not want to have to answer them again.   Sad
