Cannot send email from android phone or Ipad Air2

Evening all

Ive managed to add my plusnet email account to both my Samsung A3 phone and my ipad Air2 - whilst I can receive email I cannot send any

I've deleted and reinstalled the accounts with no effect.

Phone says that it requires authentication - when I enter my username and password it tells me that they are either not correct or that POP/IMAP are not set up on the phone.

Similar with the ipad - username/password are not correct.

I;m not particularly technical, so non techy language would be appreciated.

Cannot get any help from plusnet - they say they will not assist with devices.

 

Any suggestions much appreciated

Hi Lisa,

It sounds like you need to setup SMTP Authentication as you're trying to send mail using Plusnet's SMTP server whilst connected to a non-Plusnet network (eg, your mobile phone provider)

Please see point (6) at https://www.plus.net/help/archive/email/android-setup/ This gives the general idea of the settings required.

Personally I would use relay.plus.net rather than smtp.plus.net.

I should have mentioned that I am a very new subscriber and my broadband will not go live until 24th January. A chap on plusnet live chat this morning told me that is the reason why, once I go live all should work wonderfully.

I hope he is right, I will keep your reply to hand just in case.

Yes, you can not send email via the Plusnet server (relay.plus.net) until your broadband account is active

Superusers are not staff, but they do have a direct line of communication into the business in order to raise issues, concerns and feedback from the community.
