Another problem : "Too Many Recipients"

What on earth is going on as I'm getting just about no email and the rest either has vanished or gets bounced back with that message,

Well I've had 1 email turn up after being stuck inside JTN/PN for over 2 hours.. .the rest have I guess been flushed down the pan.

Hi Steve,
Sorry about this. I'm almost certain it's going to be the Cloudmark devices rate limiting connections from the JTN mail forwarders. There's an internal problem open already (ref: 69078). I'll keep you informed with progress...

I'm led to believe that we've reverted to using the Ironports for the smarthosting of JTN mail for now so hopefully this is no longer an issue Steve? We'll come back to it next week and make sure preventative measures are put in place before switching back to the Cloudmark boxes.

We've made a config change today too which will result recipient limit breaches returning a temporary 4xx error rather than a permanent 5xx one.

But what is that limit? I'd had maybe 3 items of mail that morning so why was that email rejected? At that level it shouldn't even get a temporary error.

The recipient limit was being applied to the boxes that look after JTN mail forwarding. It was global rather than specific to your account.

Heads up that we're about to switch back to the Cloudmark devices so keep your eyes peeled for any potential problems.
