Since about midnight last night my download speed has dropped from over 7Mbps to 0.1Mbps, (upload speed is unaffected)
BT speedtester gives the following results
Download speedachieved during the test was - 0.1 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 0.05 Mbps-0.25 Mbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :7.62 Mbps(DOWN-STREAM), 0.45 Mbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 0.14 Mbps
My router tells me the following
Quote Rate
Downstream Upstream
Data Rate 7616 kbps 448 kbps
Maximum Attainable Data Rate(ATTNDR) 0 kbps 0 kbps
Information
Downstream Upstream
Line Attenuation(LATN) 2.5 dB 5.0 dB
Signal Attenuation(SATN) 0.0 dB 0.0 dB
Signal-to-Noise Ratio Margin(SNRM) 17.0 dB 25.0 dB
Actual Aggregate Transmit Power (ACATP) 0.0 dB 0.0 dB
How can I get my IP profile reset?

As for the IP Profile - you can't. This is controlled by the Exchange DLM. You have had a low sync event for some reason that's caused a low sync speed even though it may have been brief. Did you plug something in without a filter, or possibly been altering any internal wiring etc.?
What puzzles me a bit is so close to the exchange, you should have no trouble with Interleaving being turned off and being able to sync at 8128.
I also assume you are on 20CN which is why you profile hasn't yet gone back up - it should do within 24 hrs if you keep the modem/router on 24/7.

Quote from: Anotherone Blimey do you camp in the exchange? With that attenuation you must be at least next door!
Well, I'm about 200yds as the crow flies 400yds via the road.

No, didn't do anything, first time anything like this has happenned in the 6 years or so I've had broadband. I've gone through 3 modem/routers but never had a speed problem before.

O.K.. A waiting game then.
Thanks for your help.

Wait and see what happens to your BT IP profile, if it hasn't gone up in 24hrs, come back here and ask for a line reset. If that's not needed, then make a request here for Interleaving to be turned off.

Your line has recently been having disconnections that appear to have lowered your IP profile.

Have you been rebooting your router at all or any had power-cuts? Your IP profile will update it's self every 72 hours, so leave your router turned on, we can then try and diagnose why you have had these disconnections.

I did try rebooting several times yesterday, thinking my router was at fault, in the past this has fixed it. (I've got an ancient Cable and Wireless router.)
Looking at the graph, I can say for sure that the Friday was not me, and Monday was not me but I am guilty for the Sunday ones but that was after the problem appeared. We've had no power cuts apart from one over a week ago, Sunday 8th.

I would suggest to try a alternative micro-filter, and also connect into your Test Socket if you have a NTE5 socket.
We can then monitor your connection and and get your speed profile back up-to speed

I did of course mean "caused a low profile"
Quote from: Anotherone You have had a low sync event for some reason that's caused a low sync speed even though it may have been brief.
It only takes one low sync event on 20CN for DLM to lower the IP profile (where it will stay until DLM raises it again or the line is reset).
@RichardWest
You could check to see if there is Planned Engineering work at your exchange in case you have further issues by putting the first 5 digits of your STD code in here.
@chrispurvey
His current sync speed is fine, changing the filter is pointless at this time.

From your link:
Quote Displaying results for: 01728
Current/Recent Faults and Maintenance
No current faults or maintenance found
Planned Maintenance
Upcoming planned maintenance over the next 7 days
No planned maintenance found
I haven't got a NTE5 socket.
Quote but the several reboots have potentially decreased your profile.
But that wasn't until after the speed dropped.

We can look at doing a snr reset on your line, your connection has been stable for 4 hours, so looking good, we just want to see it get to 24 hours then we can look at doing that.
@Anotherone
I agree, changing the micro-filter may not be the reason behind this, as the sync speeds are OK, but it will certainly rule it out as to the cause of the disconnections, and if we do need to raise a fault this will need to be done anyway.

@RichardWest
It might be handy if you've got another modem/router to try as well if further drops persist.
As you haven't got an NTE5 can you say if you have any fixed extension sockets and wiring? Are you using any extension leads?
