what is the correct term for this.....

Does anyone know the correct term for this

P1110015 finger hole tuning knob.jpg

I know there is a correct name for the "hole" offset on a tuning knob on some radios, to facilitate faster rotation /  tuning,  by using one finger and rotating the knob at a faster rate than using the outer edge being gripped by the fingers.

I also know it is possible to buy a "stick-on" version, which I want to buy for a radio I have, but need to know the correct term to search for a supplier.

Thank you

@shutter

In the RS catalogue there’s a horrendously priced one under plain old potentiometer knobs. See Elma 39mm black pot knob K1-DM-B60.

Re: what is the correct term for this.....

@Baldrick1

still can't see it - although I don't really care (I was just making a point !),

I got the gist from Googling your reference to the Elma K1-DM-B60

@shutter

try searching for "jog control knob"

also "jog dial", "jog wheel", "shuttle dial", or "shuttle wheel"

or "finger control knob"

Re: what is the correct term for this.....

@shutter

so the above terms give you something like this -

Jog Control Knob.png

or "finger crank control knob" appear to have a fancy spinning insert -

Oh for [-Censored-] @James_B 's [-Censored-]  image censorship is interfering with editing posts with yet to be approved images, with the cursor not being in the right place, so any editing isn't happening where the cursor is showing.

@James_B  just roll back this ridiculous censorship it is making this forum unusable !!!

Re: what is the correct term for this.....

Hi Guys.

Thanks for the input....but I do not want to replace the knob on the receiver... I just want the correct term for the "hole".. so I can purchase a "stick - on " version..

Checking out "kranker" found the term "dimple"  so maybe that will be the route to follow.

Thanks again.

Re: what is the correct term for this.....

@shutter  how big is your knob ?  Shocked

so I can narrow down any searches for stick-on dimples to your required diameter ?

Re: what is the correct term for this.....

@shutter

I think you are referring to the HAM radio "elecraft finger dimple" - which appears to have gone out of production in 2016.

You might want to search for alternatives to "elecraft finger dimple", unless I find one first.

I asked Grok, which came back with this -

They appear to have been here in the UK, but currently out of stock -

There are a few other outlets that list "FD-GRY finger dimple", but so far they are all out of stock.

I tried getting Grok to do an exhaustive worldwide search, only to conclude -

@shutter @outcast

I have released the images for you

Maybe for now try using attachments rather than posting images.

Re: what is the correct term for this.....

@outcast  Thank you very much for your time spent searching and researching for the answer.. and for the link to Waters & Stanton site... As it seems they have been out of stock for some time, probably looking for a dead dodo now.. so will just have to try and figure out a way of manufacturing one from some old plastic and a 10mm drill, or large countersink bit ...

Much appreciate the time an effort you have put in

cheers
