Re: Sagem 2704n as WiFi Extender for BT Openzone

I've been scrabbling for any glaring errors after trying a few positions/ a couple of which my macbook alone can successfully connect to so I'm certain they're good but no luck with the 2704n.
I grabbed these images as having no MAC address listed didn't seem right. Shouldn't there be an IPv4 address in image 1 also?

Re: Sagem 2704n as WiFi Extender for BT Openzone

Ah, good eye for spotting those anomalies... but luckily there fine.  I have the same missing info and I'm using the exact same firmware.
It seems its not updated its-self correctly with this software version.  I think because its very new, the openwrt guys are still working out a few bugs.
Now saying that......
I just tried to reconnect to BTWiFi and I had the same problem you did!.  Because I connected 2 routers together and the 2704N decided to switch off its DHCP.
So can I suggest.....
NETWORK > DHCP and DNS > and untick "Domain required" and tick "Authoritative".  (Apply & Save)
connect to the BTWiFi and System > Reboot > Reboot.
Normally you do not need to reboot this software, but sometimes it helps.

I see you have a good 47% signal level, so that look like a very good position for your router.

Re: Sagem 2704n as WiFi Extender for BT Openzone

I dont think this will help...  but its worth a try...
Heres the config from my setup:
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B4-Ln6UubyEed1pUTlBOZnpiTkE
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B4-Ln6UubyEeTHctbkFKUEZpX00
you can upload it (in its zipped format) to System > Backup.
And reconnect to the Wireless again.
> Reboot again to be sure.

If it does magicaly work, then I forgot to tell you something in the posts   Smiley

I used your config file et voila, it works. Landing page comes up no problems on Mac. Now I have to figure a way to get the XBoxOne working too.
Thanks so much for the help!

hooray!,    I know how annoying it is without internet, I was in the same position!
oooh XBoxOne  this is only a guess (because I have an old XBox360), but try to login via the xbox's web browser first.  Then hopefully Live should login.  But this is only a guess.

Sadly XBoxOne doesn't let you open browser without network connection. Silly!
I'm trying a method of logging in via virtual machine on MacBook then copying VM's MAC address into XBoxOne alt MAC address. Had success with this previously but intermittent signal strength was the deal breaker. Hopefully with this setup I might fare better. Cheers!

Re: Sagem 2704n as WiFi Extender for BT Openzone

Hi. Something's gone awry. I can't bring up router page even though Ethernet connection is fine and dhcp successful. 192.168.1.1/cgi-bin/lucid connection refused ?!
The reset button seems to have no effect and I've no idea what caused it. Haven't changed any settings on router since functioning last night.
Is the reset to default open-wrt firmware procedure different than the usual paper clip method?
Additionally I did notice painfully slow browsing speeds (let alone streaming anything) when connected, although connection was stable (a revelation for Openzone). Any suggestions for reset and increasing speed once fixed?
Just when it all looked like it'd work 😛

Uh oh, a factory/reset will erase the web browser interface...  because on this software its an optional extra.  I forgot to mention that.
I'll respond soon.

Re: Sagem 2704n as WiFi Extender for BT Openzone

Hello, regarding the reset...  pressing the reset once will do a normal reset.  But holding it down will erase the config (including the web interface)
Can you download a mini HTTP or FTP server for your MAC.
Download this F/W: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B4-Ln6UubyEeMVM5eUZkLUV2M2M and place it in your HTTP/FTP folder.  This is the same F/W but without the first 64K
Telnet to 192.168.1.1 and type:
cd /tmp
wget http://192.168.1.216/FAST2704N-squashfs-only-with-luci.bin
sync
dd if=./FAST2704N-squashfs-only-with-luci.bin of=/dev/mtdblock5 bs=65536
When the command line comes back.  Repower your box.
Then you can upload the zipped config again from the web interface.
if you have a FTP server instead: change the wget line to "wget ftp://192.168.1.216/FAST2704N-squashfs-only-with-luci.bin"
Of course, I am assuming your IP address is 192.168.1.216
Thats probably the easiest way to bring it back to its working state.

Re: Sagem 2704n as WiFi Extender for BT Openzone

Possible speed up:
In the Network > Interfaces > (Lan & Wwan) > Edit > Advanced Settings.
Change the MTU's to 1024.  You might find that increases the speed (as much as 20%)
After the change, disconnect / reconnect your ethernet so your Apple's MTU should change as well.
Another bad suggestion:
I'm not into that spectral analysis vodoo.  But looking at this pdf
You could try to turn your router so one of the sides is facing towards the BTWiFi access point.

Re: Sagem 2704n as WiFi Extender for BT Openzone

After a bit of fiddling (i'm not as quick with Mac's Terminal as Window's cmd and haven't used Telnet before) i've managed to follow your instructions and am back to working order.
MTU changes made, fingers crossed for improvement!
Many thanks

Re: Sagem 2704n as WiFi Extender for BT Openzone

Ok cool. It's running at a usable speed now for Mac-based office/life-admin work but the xbox speed is still agonising.
With my router in this mode is there any use in port forwarding on the 2704n for XboxLIVE or would that only be applicable to the primary router/ due to Openzone's setup?

Re: Sagem 2704n as WiFi Extender for BT Openzone

I just read on a MS site that the Xbox expect a large MTU..  something like 1384+
So this is a bit of guess work now.....
If you change the MTU's to something large again, like 1480.  And change..
Network > WiFi > Edit > Advanced Setup
the Fragmentation Threshold to a small amount - 350 (this feels very counter-intuitive to me)
It should make smaller wifi packets, which can resend quicker when the errors occur.
I also noticed... in the WiFi section, the RX speed drops down really low (like 11Mbs) inorder to keep the connection stable.  And to be honest I dont know how to change that.
It needs to be double or tripple the internet speed to get a good thoughput.

I think that we have reached the limit of the hardware/software.

Oh, no port forwarding on public WiFi like that - Sorry.

Re: Sagem 2704n as WiFi Extender for BT Openzone

Ok. I'll fiddle MTU and Frag Threshold.
Thanks for the Port info, I figured it wouldn't be applicable for BT FON.
Great advice Matty. (Disaster notwithstanding) I'll limp to broadband line day no troubles.
All the best!

Re: Sagem 2704n as WiFi Extender for BT Openzone

Just a quick note to anyone trying this all out, and for Matty if curious.
Frag Threshold changes resulted in no connection to Openzone.
MTU change did yield speed improvement though.
