Plusnet will do what BT tell them to do.

Why has it been changed from the two to one ( this could cause problems for customers) microfilter PN ?

We trialled sending one filter out for a period last year and the results gave us the confidence to do this.

Under what's in the box , it say Microfilters, the picture shows one Microfilter, which is correct ?

One microfilter. I'll flag up the spurious 's'

How would a customer request more , can this be done at sign up , or do customers have to ring up to request more ?

Not 100% sure, let me check.
Ring up or contact support, they can be ordered by any staff here.

Re: ISP PlusNet Launch Faster Hub Zero 2704n Broadband Router

Surely the change from two to one is just a cost cutting exercise ?
When a customer has a problem, one of the most basic things to check can be "changing the microfilter", now by default, unless the customer has spares ( which we all know is a good idea), they will not be able to do this .
I think this is a bad idea, lets over stretch the call centrer staff  ( as if there not already stretched enough at times) having customers on hold, to request more microfilters, , which according to ISP review article will be free.
Seems more costly than just sending two in the first place

Re: ISP PlusNet Launch Faster Hub Zero 2704n Broadband Router

Does anyone know how I find out the IP and DHCP range for the 2704n? I want to use another router to extend wifi coverage, and a guide on the internet said to assign the secondary router an IP address outside the DHCP range of the primary one. But when I log into the control panel for the 2704n I can't see anything which tells me the DHCP range. Any help appreciated!

Re: ISP PlusNet Launch Faster Hub Zero 2704n Broadband Router

The IP of the new router is 192.168.1.254 I believe, the DHCP range is 192.168.1.1 - 192.168.1.253

Re: ISP PlusNet Launch Faster Hub Zero 2704n Broadband Router

At the moment we're sending some 582n's out still and some 2704's. We're intending to just send the 2704's though.

I got the answer

Thanks for the answer, but I'm now left wondering what IP address I can use for a secondary router? The website I looked at gave an example where the DHCP range was 192.168.1.1-192.168.1.50, so you could use an IP address from 192.168.1.51-192.168.1.255. From the answer above, the DHCP range seems to cover the whole range, so not sure what IP address to use for the secondary router. Any further help?
Thanks

Re: ISP PlusNet Launch Faster Hub Zero 2704n Broadband Router

It will need the DHCP range modified to leave some IP addresses free for allocations such as this. It seems strange to me to ship a router configured this way.

I've got my hands on a 2704n and will be having a play with it when I get some spare time.

Re: ISP PlusNet Launch Faster Hub Zero 2704n Broadband Router

I haven't checked that particular point but given the way that the router is locked down against actions which were not considered normal for the average user I would suggest that it isn't possible

Re: ISP PlusNet Launch Faster Hub Zero 2704n Broadband Router

Why do you need the second router to be on the same range? This would only serve to make it easyer to get into and configure the secound router.

Re: ISP PlusNet Launch Faster Hub Zero 2704n Broadband Router

Ok - had a play with the new router. It didn't take long ........
Pro's:
Router has an onboard option to switch between FTTC and ADSL
Menu's are snappier and everything is a lot easier to navigate
Devices on network can be time restricted.
Cons:
Bright pink feet.
No guest or secondary network
No USB
Time restricted devices can only be assigned a time - not a day of week as well.
No way to set IP address of router / subnet / turn off DHCP server etc ......
This was where I gave up and put the router back in its box. I run quite a complex home network and a separate DHCP server etc. I can't even connect this router to my network without needing to alter a whole lot of other stuff within it.
Summary ? Ok router for a basic home user. Totally naff router for anyone who needs to run on an IP address other than 192.168.1.x and has a separate DHCP server.

Re: ISP PlusNet Launch Faster Hub Zero 2704n Broadband Router

Since we are discussing it
I had a play before going back to the TG582n
I have raised the following internally
Respond to ping is permanently disabled on security grounds - so forget about BQM
Telnet is disabled and I didn't find any way of enabling it - so no monitoring programs will work such as Routerstats
Can't fix a device IP address which for me is one reason I won't be using it except for testing
When switching one supplied for ADSL to fibre it has to be set up manually  - TR069 won't work and all settings revert to default - and it is then only a three port router
