i assume it doesn't have a VDSL modem in it though? which means that another device will be required when "self install" is a requirement.

Did you actually read http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,135846.msg1192145.html#msg1192145 I thought that was clear!

the post you linked to (which is your post) makes no reference to VDSL modem.

Standby is very bad for FTTC. As I do believe FTTC cabinet doesn't like sleeping or standby mode by router otherwise trigger by DLM.

... which means it's a really good job that this is the router we are talking about and not the modem!

Re: ISP PlusNet Launch Faster Hub Zero 2704n Broadband Router

I fail to see where the EU requirements will have any effect on this as the standby mode in this case would not alter or affect the connection from the modem to the cab so wouldn't cause the DLM to interfere
Even where a VDSL capable router were to be used the standby mode would not include the connection to the cab as this is specifically excluded in the regulations

Re: ISP PlusNet Launch Faster Hub Zero 2704n Broadband Router

I like the idea of being easily able to change the DNS. Wonder if there will be any possibility of existing users ordering one of the new rouers at a reasonable cost?

Is there a generally available document saying that as the last statement I saw dated October 2014

It's not generally available unfortunately, but it basically says:
1) Openreach are withdrawing supply of new modems (no if's/but's).
2) Customers must order self install or managed install of a customer provided modem/router.
3) If a FTTC service is faulty after 1 Dec because of the modem, then service to the end user will not be able to be maintained (unless the customer supplies their own modem).
Conflicts quite a bit with what's said in the ISPReview article.

Re: ISP PlusNet Launch Faster Hub Zero 2704n Broadband Router

I wonder how this fits in with the Sale of Goods Act specifically related the the modem which Openreach have a duty to support/replace within a reasonable timescale

Re: ISP PlusNet Launch Faster Hub Zero 2704n Broadband Router

Adrian Kennard made his views clear - http://www.revk.uk/2014/10/bt-losing-plot-on-fttc.html
I think the issue seems to have gone quiet though since then.

I make no apology chenks76

I think that's a rather mean response for something which is a more energy efficient mass market router to replace the 582n, not an all singing dancing AC wireless monolith. We'll have to wait and see what it's performance is like.
Whilst Kitz's comment comes as no surprise, we don't yet know what Plusnet might be offering when it comes to Fibre Self Install.

Hence no vDSL modem as it also says in various other links which presumably your read and understood, so why keep on about it!.

Re: ISP PlusNet Launch Faster Hub Zero 2704n Broadband Router

as a self-confessed ass-hole i can certainly say i know one when i see one.
it's takes a big man to admit when they are wrong - neither of us appear to be a big man.
your post does not specifically say there is no VDSL modem, then post after yours does.
you make no apology but i will accept yours even though you don't offer it.

Re: ISP PlusNet Launch Faster Hub Zero 2704n Broadband Router

I'm a little surprised Plusnet have not released the 589v3 - it's been tested amongst staff and some users on here. It seemed like the perfect modem/router as follow on from the 582n.

Re: ISP PlusNet Launch Faster Hub Zero 2704n Broadband Router

@andyH they probably got a better deal buying in bulk for the 2704N than to pay a little more to provide something that members may actually want at the end of the day money means more than customer needs / satisfaction.
