Chat and screen readers

It appears Chat is not compatible with screen readers - see last part of http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,138400.msg1288042.html#msg1288042
Under the DDA I believe Plusnet should make suitable alternative arrangements available for disabled persons who depend on such a utility to communicate.
Perhaps Plusnet could outline what those arrangements are...

..or apparently perhaps not.
Just report them and send that on a ticket.
Whatever happens always remember "We will do you

Re: Chat and screen readers

Hi guys
I've just got off the phone with Liveperson, our Chat partner who have assured me that their Chat windows are optimised and designed for screen readers so they were concerned to hear about this.
@Midnight Caller - could you share a little more detail with us about which one you are using & ideally a couple of screenshots to show the experience? Happy to PM my email address so we can chat, too.
Thanks
Liam

Re: Chat and screen readers

I do hope that Liveperson don't think "Screen reader" means "person reading the screen"

Re: Chat and screen readers

@Liam Dyson, Do you think what you as PlusNet are doing to there customers is wright?
By disregarding the Disability Discrimination Act and superseded by the Equality Act 2010
As stated your Chat facility is not compatible with some screen readers.
Do you want me to take you to court?

Re: Chat and screen readers

Gary, while I share your concern about chat and screen readers the latest version of the one you are using seems to be almost 10 years old!
Have you tried other screen readers?

Re: Chat and screen readers

@dvorak, I have tried JAWS in the past it was at the time £2000.00, JAWS Home Edition Base Price: £609.84 at the time of currency converted.
I don't have the budget to spend on a top end Screen Reader like JAWS, and I don't have the time to  test out other Screen Readers.

Re: Chat and screen readers

why not just try http://www.nvaccess.org/ or http://www.screenreader.net/index.php?pageid=11 as they both seem to work well and are free
