As British Summer Time (BST) comes to an end this Sunday, the clocks go back giving us the only 25-hour day in the year. And it seems three quarters (76%) of us will be spending that extra hour in bed, enjoying a well-earned sleep or lie-in, according to our new research* conducted by One Poll.

From calling friends and family to watching TV, the following activities topped the list for ways Brits plan to spend their extra hour:
1. Enjoying well-earned sleep or a lie-in
2. Getting their hands dirty with housework and gardening
3. Watching TV
4. Spending quality time with friends and family
5. Getting a sweat on with exercise
6. Powering through life admin
7. Walking the dog
8. Scrolling through social media feeds, such as Instagram and Facebook

Scots are the sleepiest of all with those in Aberdeen (88%) planning to spend the extra hour in bed. Gloucester is the most green-fingered city with 1 in 5 (21%) using their extra hour to get stuck into some gardening. People of Edinburgh are the most likely to work up a sweat with 16% spending the extra hour exercising, and those in Liverpool are an amorous lot using their extra hour to catch up on ‘Netflix and Chill’ (7%).
When it comes to guaranteeing the perfect lie-in it’s the simple things that count. Fresh bed sheets come out on top for Brits (48%), followed by plump pillows (40%) and comfy pyjamas (24%) topping the list of essential ingredients for a lie-in. But sometimes company is the key to the perfect snooze, with 30% admitting having someone to cuddle up to makes all the difference.
And if we do manage to tick all the boxes for the ultimate lie-in, Brits plan to stay in bed until 9.20am. However, for some of us, there’s no chance of hitting the snooze button, with work (36%), personal body clocks (32%) children (16%) and natural light (16%) revealed as the worst offenders when it comes to ruining the perfect lie-in.
Jessica Alexander, Snooze Expert at the Sleep Council said: “A 25-hour day only comes around once a year, and if, like the majority of us, you plan to spend it in bed, you don’t have to feel guilty as the odd lie-in is good for our mental and physical wellbeing. So, make sure the kids are otherwise occupied, you have sweet smelling fresh sheets, and plenty of comfy pillows, relax and hit play on Netflix.”

* Research was commissioned by Plusnet and was carried out by independent third-party research supplier One Poll in October 2017. The research profiled 2,000 UK adults.

4. The Promoter reserves the right to substitute a prize of equivalent or greater value if this is necessary for reasons beyond its control.
5. Entries must be made by Twitter users retweeting the giveaway post on the Plusnet Twitter page (@Plusnet) and follow the account between 9am and 4pm of that day’s giveaway. Any entries outside the promotion will not be counted. Entries sent in through agents or third parties will not be entered into the Prize Draw.
6. The winners will be the first selected at random from all valid entries between 4-5pm each day. Winners will be notified daily by 5pm via a post on Twitter which will contain the winner(s) Twitter handle (username). Winners will need to email their postal or email address details to: email@example.com with the subject line ‘Snooze Hour winner’. Winners must respond to notification of their prize within 24 hours, otherwise the right to claim the prize will be lost and the promoter reserves the right to re-award the prize. Prizes will be provided by post.
7. A list of prize winners (first and last name and county only) may be obtained by written request by sending an SAE to firstname.lastname@example.org on or before 24.11.17.
8. Your personal details will be retained for the purpose of the Prize Draw and will not be processed for any other purpose, unless you choose or have chosen to receive information from the Promoter.
9. No cash alternative will be offered and prizes are non-transferable.
10. The Promoter reserves the right to re-draw the winner if they cannot be contacted within a reasonable period of time (to be established at the promoter’s sole discretion) and the right to disqualify any entrant or select alternative winner in the event that it believes that any entrant has contravened these terms and conditions.
11. The entry may not contain libellous, sexually explicit, disparaging or other inappropriate content. No entry may contain unlawful, obscene or objectionable material. The Promoter also reserves the right at any time during the Prize Draw to remove or disqualify any entry when it believes in its sole discretion that the entrant has:
(i) infringed any third party's copyright;
(ii) does not comply with these terms and conditions;
(iii) failed to obtain the necessary consents as set out in these terms and conditions.
12. The entrant must be the original creator of the entry and must have obtained the necessary permissions for the inclusion of copyrighted images (if any) within the entry. The entry must not infringe the rights of privacy and publicity, copyright, trademarks or intellectual property rights of any person or organisation.
13. If the entrant uses any material or elements in the entry which are subject to the rights of a third party, the entrant must obtain prior to submission of the entry, the necessary consents from such party to enable the Promoter to use and showcase the entry. Such consent(s) shall be at the expense of the entrant. A non-exhaustive list of such material or elements include: name, likeness of any person and/or audio-visual material which the entrant does not own.
14. By entering this Prize Draw, entrants agree that the Promoter may showcase their entries on the Promoter's website and any other media in connection with the Prize Draw and use their names, likenesses, photographs and/or biographical information (as it appears on Twitter) and entries for advertising, publicity and promotional purposes without additional compensation.
15. The entrant agrees that the Promoter shall not be liable for any claims, costs, liabilities, damages, expenses and losses arising out of
(i) the Promoter’s use of the entrant's entry;
(ii) the entrant's participation in the Prize Draw;
(iii) technical failures of any kind including but not limited to problems or delays arising from software or equipment malfunctions or computer viruses;
