router randomly pauses

I am intrigued by the identified fault on the line.  With FTTP I thought either it worked, or it did not ... no halfway positions as one might get with a copper circuit having an iffy joint!

Will be very interesting to know what is happening here.

Must admit the 'works or doesn't  work' aspect of FTTP does raise some interesting questions, @Townman . This could be an interesting occurrence.

I will grab it tomorrow after the school run.

the cable between the hub and BT box has the WAN/LAN stickers on from when  at the old place finally got something other than ADSL and a new box of bits arrived 

I do kinda think the hub isn't quite as healthy as it should be

I had noticed before when I've changed a DNS setting to google/cloud flare before we moved it never reflected the change

I put it down to "user error" or DNS as it is always DNS and no time to look in to why with pending moving house.

the times seem to match when the bigger drop our happens.

the smaller pauses are all day and randomly, best way to describe them is like DNS is slow, it was one reason I tried updating the router DNS to Google and Cloud Flare with no success in the setting propagating to devices, so I assumed it was ether my error or a disabled feature. 

with moving house very soon I didn't commit any more time to it. 

I will open a support ticket asap

it does, but it can still do it intermittently!
