MMS cost and settings

Hi

I'm having trouble receiving mms - I get a failed to download message which keeps popping up and then I get a text with a link to ee site and a password to enter to view it.

These are my APN settings

(This one is selected)

Name : EE

APN : Everywhere

Username : eesecure

Password : ******* (presume it is "secure")

MCC : 234

MNC : 33

Authentication type PAP

APN Type: default,aupl,ia

APN Protocol IPv4/IPv6

APN Roaming protocol IPv4

And I also have this APN (currently not selected)

Name : EE Zone

APN eezone

Password: **** (again, assume it is "secure")

MMSC : http://mms/

MMS Proxy: 149.254.201.135

MMS Port: 8080

MCC : 234

MNC : 33

Authentication type: PAP

APN Type : mms, xcap

APN Protocol: IPv4

APN Roaming protocol: IPv4

Which one should be selected please? Or are they wrong?

I'm not really interested in sending mms but I'd like to receive, I can't find anything to show if there is a cost to receive mms?

thanks

Re: MMS cost and settings

Hi alfienoakes,

Thanks for getting in touch with us!

Our network does process MMS images directly to the SIM card however, if this is converted to the EE link that you have been provided with, it could be the APN settings that are currently stored, or the make and model of the handset itself.

As I don't have the information such as the operating system of your handset, I have provided both the Android and Apple APN settings below.

I would advise to delete all current settings stored and try each APN setting separately. Only have one stored on your handset at any one time, as multiple APN settings would interfere with the network settings overall.

Android

Go to Menu > Settings > Wireless & Networks (or More) > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names > Menu > New APN

Without changing any other settings, type in the following info:

Name: EE Internet
APN: everywhere
Username: eesecure
Password: secure
MMSC: http://mms/
MMS Proxy: 149.254.201.135
MMS Port: 8080
Authentication type: PAP
APN type: If there's a choice, choose internet+mms. If the keyboard appears, type *

Tap Menu, then Save

To start your new APN, make sure the line is ticked or the radio button is lit by tapping on it.

Check the notification bar for 4G, H, 3G, E or G with up and down arrows beside it. That'll show your connection is working.

iPhone

Go to Settings > Mobile or Cellular > Mobile Data Network or Cellular Data Network > Access Point Names > Menu > New APN.

Without changing any other settings, type in the following info:

For Mobile data:
APN: everywhere
Username: eesecure
Password: secure

For MMS:
APN: eezone
Username: eesecure
Password: secure
MMSC: http://mms/
MMS Proxy: 149.254.201.135:8080
MMS Max Message Size: 1048576

Tap the left arrow at the top three times, then press the home button.

Check the notification bar for 4G, 3G, E or GPRS. That'll show your connection is working.

Re: MMS cost and settings

Thanks very much Rebeka

I will try your suggestion - I have a Huawei Mate 10 on Android 8.0

Before I do, please can you advise the cost of both sending and receiving mms?

Re: MMS cost and settings

You're welcome alfienoakes.

To send a media message (including picture messages) when in the UK or in a Roam Like at Home Band 1 destination, it will cost 40p per message and it is free to receive.

You can find all of our out bundle charges over at https://www.plus.net/help/legal/mobile-price-guide/.

Re: MMS cost and settings

Hi @alfienoakes

thanks for getting back to us!

If you're still unable to send MMS messages this could be due to your message center number, you can change this via the message settings on your handset and should be the following number 447870002308.

Re: MMS cost and settings

Hi

The message centre number is correct. I've not tried to send an mms, I'm too much of a cheapskate. It's just I keep getting message "failed to download mms"

Re: MMS cost and settings

I have no interest in sending them, but are they free to receive?

I have received some, by way of a link and password. Does this sound legit? Does it imply my settings need adjusting for Plusnet as you posted earlier? When I moved over to PlusNet I didn't change any settings at all and everything else seems to work fine! Surprised me.

Re: MMS cost and settings

1. They are free to receive

2. The link and password to ee site is legit, albeit it can arrive a few days later.

3. The default settings, or the amended settings provided earlier in this post, do not work for me.

Re: MMS cost and settings

Ok, I still have this problem. Friend tried to send me one the other day, got the usual "Can't download mms". My settings are as posted earlier. I guess I just need to give up.

Re: MMS cost and settings

@alfienoakes, have you/are you able to test this by trying your plusnet SIM in a different handset?

From 31st October 2022, I no longer have a regular presence here as I’ve moved on to a new role.
