Category D pole. What next?

Hi Plusnet Team,

I’m looking for some help and clarification regarding my Full Fibre installation.

An Openreach engineer (Damien) attended my address ahead of my scheduled installation and advised that the telephone pole serving my property has been classified as Category D. As explained to me, this means the pole requires remedial or replacement works before Full Fibre can be installed.

Current installation details:

  • Date: Wednesday 14 January

  • Time slot: 1pm–6pm

  • Postcode: FK2 8JL

At present, no Openreach work has been carried out (no CBT fitted, no fibre or rope present). The pole is located on neighbouring land close to the main road, with access possible either via the neighbour or by cherry picker.

Could someone from Plusnet please help with the following:

  1. Confirm whether the Category D pole issue has been formally logged with Openreach

  2. What remedial works are required and who schedules them

  3. Whether my current installation appointment is likely to proceed or should be rescheduled

  4. A realistic timeline for Full Fibre installation once the pole issue is resolved

I’m happy to provide my account username and Openreach appointment reference via private message if needed.

Thanks in advance for your help — I’d really appreciate an update so I can plan accordingly.

Kind regards

Re: Full Fibre installation – Openreach engineer confirmed Category D pole

@Long_Waited_FF

Log into your PN Members page and look at any Open questions for information.

https://www.plus.net/wizard/?p=search

Apart from that you are unlikely to get much information out of PN - apart from what they're told by OR. OR work to their own schedule - could be described as "as and when"

When you say no CBT has been fitted are you talking about on the pole? If so don't expect any quick solution. Different departments of OR are involved - pole replacement, main network install (CBT) and then house install.

I would agree with @bmc - your FF install will not go ahead on the 14th if the pole requires replacement, as suggested.

Unless the pole in question is an intermediate one between the CBT and the property. I assume that these are used fto connect to isolated properties.
