Use FileZilla to see hidden files in your webspace

This'll come in handy if you ever need to edit a .htaccess or .htpasswd file.  By default, these files (and any others with a proceeding dot) are hidden from view when you log in to your webspace.
You might also find this helpful if you're having trouble deleting a seemingly empty folder in your webspace, there are probably hidden files which you need to delete first.
You'll need FileZilla, which you can find here.

  1. Once you've connected to your webspace, browse to where the hidden files are located.hidden
  2. Go to the Server menu at the top of the FileZilla window and select Force Showing Hidden Files.
Doing this forces FileZilla to show you any hidden files in the folder you're looking at.menu
  3. The folder you browsed to earlier will refresh and reveal the hidden files.unhidden

That's all you need to do!  You can now edit or delete the files as appropriate.  If you want to hide the files again, go back to the Server menu and untick Force Showing Hidden Files.
