Image removed for security reasons

I have had several e-mails of an advertising nature such as details about a christmas menu at a local resturant etc but the images were replaced by a message that the "Image had been removed for security reasons"
Is there some risk in getting images in an e-mail from a trusted source ?
Is it possible to display images by changing some settings to stop them getting blocked ?
The above applies to Plusnet e-mail, no problems with other e-mail providers.

Re: Image removed for security reasons

You can click View Images while viewing a message to get the images displayed.

Re: Image removed for security reasons

I have migrated here from Orange where images were displayed without interference.
I'm now getting the "Image has been removed for security reasons" and I have to click on "View images" to see them
Is there no setting to show pictures by default?

Re: Image removed for security reasons

as above what are you using to download the e-mails?
I am using thunderbird and that does  stop the pics on new contacts, but you can then have them displayed with no problems there after
And yes pictures can transmit hiden virus

Re: Image removed for security reasons

@drj
I agree with you the way it replaces the remote images is a pain in the posterior. You'd think there would be a way you could designate safe senders so that the images in emails from them would display automatically. Attached is the latest email fro Money Saving Expert as an example.

Clarification.
It's fine using Outlook Express - where I've got used to having to click to display images.
My query relates to using SquirrelMail as web mail - it's very inferior compared to Orange's webmail not just because images are displayed there by default, but for several other reasons I won't go off topic and set out here - and after just a few days I'm seriously thinking of switching to Googlemail...
