Re: left shift key not working

Just to double check as there are some settings buried a bit deeper:
In Regional & Language options, on the Regional Options tab you have English (United Kingdom) set.
On the Languages tab click Details. You should have default input language as English United Kingdom. Under installed services you should have English (United Kingdom) with keyboard United Kingdom selected.

Isn`t this something to do with the keyboard settings?  either English (english) or English (usa) or possibly English (european)  (if there is a european version)..... Huh

Yes Germany Calling does not have the QWERTY keyboard, the top and bottom left hand side are different

Re: left shift key not working

Just checked any character with the left shift key and none of them work and this is the same with a different keyboard.
Both these keyboards left shift key works correctly on my other pc so I am totally confused now. Huh Huh Huh

Re: left shift key not working

This may be a little advanced but you could try using Sharpkey http://www.randyrants.com/2006/07/sharpkeys_211.html which will allow you to remap that key or possibly find out what it thinks it is doing.
But a word of warning - back up the registry before doing anything

Re: left shift key not working

Is there a requirement to reboot after altering these keyboard settings ?

Getting Started
    * Launch SharpKeys, by selecting it's icon from the Start menu. If there are any errors reported, please check the Troubleshooting section below
    * Add a new key mapping or edit an existing one
    * Click "Write to registry" and wait for a confirmation that the registry was successfully updated
    * Close SharpKeys and either log out (and back in) or reboot to enforce the new mappings

Re: left shift key not working

Hotfix arrived but didnt work, microsoft called me back and diagnosed it as a conflict with startup files.  Spent an hour on the phone doing a clean boot and this resolved it.
Thanks for all your help

Well. [Censored] ducky do....
1 I am amazed that someone from M$ replied without you handing over$100
2 They solved it and didn’t explicitly blame anyone else!

Re: left shift key not working

Same fault reoccurred, back to microsoft, tried same things but still same error.  Transferred to Dell hardware support, NFF and then to Dell Software support.  They recon I have a software corruption and they can fix it for £35 remotely.  Told them to get lost, bunch of thieves.
