Do you get a duplicate if you simply create a file?

Also, do you know when this started, had you installed anything new at the time?

If the above is true are you able to return to a restore point?

I have created a .txt file just now and no duplicate has shown.

The problem has appeared over a while: I cannot recall anything new installed or removed to cause.

Re: Windows fertilizes!

Did you ever run a restore from a backup?

@VileReynard Not as I can remember.

@Champnet I don't understand, what re-indexing would do- be for.

Re: Windows fertilizes!

Viewing lists of files most applications are reading the indexes otherwise you'd be waiting ages for reading, sorting & presentation. If the indexes are corrupt then you will see strange results. Won't do any harm to re-build the indexes.

Is it obvious I'm from  a database background ?
