Re: Why can't I get to Microsoft Support without logging in

Most odd: it doesn't for me (on Chrome or IE11).
That kind of inappropriate redirection could be some kind of malware, but seems a pretty peculiar kind if it is.

Re: Why can't I get to Microsoft Support without logging in

Interesting, I noticed that odd behaviour earlier today when checking up on an optional Windows Update.
It does it in IE10 and SRware Iron but Firefox takes me to the information. Very strange!  Crazy

Re: Why can't I get to Microsoft Support without logging in

Rebooted into Vista (dual boot system) and no problems
Ran Malwarebytes and nothing found
Next step is to remove the updates I just installed

Re: Why can't I get to Microsoft Support without logging in

I see that going to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/3021917 immediately redirects to a https://login.live.com/login.srf?... URL which then redirects me back to the kb article without me needing to do anything. I'm running Linux.

Re: Why can't I get to Microsoft Support without logging in

Thanks
I just checked on our XP computer and it does the same - goes to login.live and doesn't go back again
The Vista one is way behind on updates so that must be the reason
Will need to investigate further

Re: Why can't I get to Microsoft Support without logging in

I've supplied MS with some robust "feedback" on this via the pop-up survey that appears (sometimes?)  Wink

Re: Why can't I get to Microsoft Support without logging in

I just went to a system that I did a full factory reinstall on Mon/Tue this week.
The latest Patch Tuesday batch appeared so I checked a couple.
It did work, but certainly the first one went to the login.live page en route, don't think later ones did.
Something devious going on here methinks.  Lips_are_sealed

Re: Why can't I get to Microsoft Support without logging in

do you have the windows live id service running on your pc ?
I do on my pc and it always auto logs me in no matter what MS website I visit, when I use my w8 phone it does this same check, I actually read up on it last year and seem to recall it being a "bug feature" caused by the windows live id service, particularly if your already logged in to the live service.
of course if you disable the wlidsvs.eve and wlidsvcm.exe you likely wont be able to use some services like Hotmail ...... me I just let the machine get on with it, of course I also joined the MS experience program on the pc I'm currently having this issue on (the other machine isn't part of it and doesn't do it) so possibly you did the same thing and thus MS checks what you look at when using the system that's part of the program Smiley

Re: Why can't I get to Microsoft Support without logging in

well it used to be an exclusive service for messenger but now Skype requires it as does games for windows and a bunch of other things, its part of the Microsoft account package so if you don't use any of those things then you can disable the windows live sign in module, the pc doesn't actually require it to work although iirc office online does /
if your being annoyed by the login to your Microsoft account page when trying to look stuff up just disable the two wild task running on your pc at boot
