Suspicious incoming network connection

I have Mcafee Internet security ver14.0 and in its secuirty history I am getting the message "Suspicious incoming network connection from ip address" approx every 30 seconds.  At times my laptop just appears to hang, is this down to the amount of this traffic (at times it can be every few seconds).  Plusnet have given me a new Sagemcom 2704n router with the latest firmware 7.275.2 but it hasn't made any difference, thanks in advance

Re: Suspicious incoming network connection

Do you have a bittorrent client or similar running? Do you have any ports open pointing at your pc?
Can't think why they would be getting through the firewall, you do have it enabled on the router?

Re: Suspicious incoming network connection

Most of those IP addresses are Akamai (a widely used content distribution network, used for hosting a lot of web content) or Google. They are almost certainly related to web browsing, and probably shouldn't have been blocked by McAfee. It's possible they get blocked because they took too long to reach your computer for some reason. And/or it could be that McAfee has shorter time limits than other things.

Re: Suspicious incoming network connection

are you on a fixed or dynamic ip address from your isp ?

if its the latter then try doing a gateway hop so you get a new ip address issued, often the problem is down to people hosting files for sharing programs and then changing ip and the p2p programs not realising the seed is no longer available, I get similar problems every day but most of them are blocked by my router firewall as unsolicited traffic /
just because your paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get you

Hi no I don't have a bittorrent client or similar running, and no ports open pointing at your pc and yes the firewall is enabled on the router.
I do however have a static IP address.

+1
Had McAfee, got burned, lost lots of data on an unbootable system, no support from them to recover the system, yada yada yada ya...
McAfee is ****. The last two new computers I got with it preinstalled, the first thing i did was to remove McAfee. Frankly I'd rather buy a polished turd to sit on top of my monitor.
I need a new signature... i'm bored of the old one!
