No internet after power cut

Hi,
I had the power go on and off last night numerous times in a short space of time. Once power was properly restored I had the blue light come on to suggest broadband was connected but it wasn't working nor was I able to connect to the admin page by ethernet or WiFi.

I have a Hub 2 connected to FTTC DSL so I got another one off someone this morning and plugged that in. Again the blue light came on and the admin page which is now accessible shows good connection 39Mb download (add good as it gets here). I can't access anything on the internet though via WiFi or ethernet.

I've contacted Plusnet support who say it's because the serial number on the new router isn't recognised and therefore they block it and they can't unlock it. So they are sending a new router which obviously won't arrive for some time after Christmas. I asked if could just buy a modem/router from the shops and they said I'd have the same issue.

I'm pretty sure I used to use my own non plus net router in the past to successfully connect. Is that no longer possible?

Any other solutions to getting my internet working over Christmas?

Thanks.

I'm sorry, that's complete rubbish! Yes, when the new router is factory reset it will revert to the previous users credentials but as long as you change the PPPoE username & password to your own it will work just fine.

I'm pretty sure I used to use my own non plus net router in the past to successfully connect. Is that no longer possible?

Plusnet do allow, and have always allowed, you to use your own router. I've used my own router for some time and it works fine providing you configure the PPPoE username and password correctly

Re: No internet after power cut

Thanks MisterW. I wasn't convinced hence posting here.

As far as I can work out I've put my correct username and password in the Plusnet router (it was stuck on setup@plusdsl.net before) and it says connected but it isn't working and shows 0 for data up and down. Not sure I can see what else to do with the hub 2 I have in my possession.

@bbdcl

Not wishing to state the obvious, but you have remembered to add @plusdsl.net (with no spaces) to your username? Also, you have double checked that your username and password are correct by using them to log into your Plusnet account?

I don’t use the Plusnet router but I seem to recall users had to disconnect the router from the internet when entering actual username password, worth a try….

That only applies if you are using a BT branded Hub. It is not necessary with a Plusnet branded one. The BT models try to connect to the BT management platform, Plusnet ones are already configured to look at @plusdsl.net

Good points. Yes can confirm the login details are correct and can login in to my online account. The account is now saying there's a technical problem with my account whatever that means but I can see details, bills etc

Re: No internet after power cut

After about 6 hours of no internet it suddenly started working again. I have no idea why!

Re: No internet after power cut

Maybe the power cut upset something in the local Openreach cabinet \nd it eventually got reset...
