Why the MTU isn't user configurable in expert_user mode I do not know - very poor firmware!

They are in hiding, however there is a firmware update now being tried, I'm not sure what it's supposed to fix yet - not a lot is the first impression Sad

Re: ISP PlusNet Launch Faster Hub Zero 2704n Broadband Router

Hi
regarding port forwarding post 232 by Veri:-
=========================================================================================
It seems devices listed as "Unknown-xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx", i.e. ones for which it isn't picking up the device name, are mixed up when it comes to port forwarding.
1) I had two devices listed as Unknown-aa:aa:aa:aa:9d:76 and Unknown-bb:bb:bb:bb:e5:25;
2) I set up a port forward to Unknown-aa:aa:aa:aa:9d:76, a Windows workstation which didn't have its name picked up;
3) Eventually packets end up being forwarded to bb:bb:bb:bb:e5:25, with the UI confirming this
=========================================================================================
I moved to Plusnet a few weeks ago  have a similar problem with IP camera and cant get any of the suggested work around(s) to work. I reconnected my BT home hub and port forwarding worked fine.( I wont revert to this as DNS servers are locked which causes me other problems)
Basically the 2704n doesn't work properly and isn't fit for purpose.
Cant see any hope / timing of fix for this, do I have to get a new router, if so any recommendations for one that works properly?
Thanks /Paul

Re: ISP PlusNet Launch Faster Hub Zero 2704n Broadband Router

Hi,
I am experiencing the same issue regarding port forwarding. I have a NAS server running and have manually configured port forwarding (and NAS firewall) as the router is not supported for upnp configuration by the server. This configuration was successfully running for a week or two without issue (including remote access via DNS).
A few days ago PN performed 'routine maintenance' that effected my service for the day, and since then i have had this error. If i enter the router advanced settings and re-apply the port forwarding, everything works. But leave if for 30 mins and it fails again (and shows a random mac address in brackets after the server mac address in port forwarding settings).
No idea why or what to do next..?
Appreciate any input here

thank you !  that is exactly what is wrong with this router.  it works fine when you set up but after 30 minutes the software screws up the configuration.  I just tried it and port forwrading works again.  but will fail in 30 minutes.

please plus.net get this fixed.

Re: ISP PlusNet Launch Faster Hub Zero 2704n Broadband Router

I meant to add that I tried this on the FTP Server setting.
if you set up forwrading using the provided option in list it will work fo r30 minutes
FTP Server Unknown-00:25:22:f5:97:3e (00:25:22:f5:97:3e)
then afte r30 minutes you get this:
FTP Server Unknown-00:25:22:f5:97:3e (00:0f:60:02:d1:c3)

Re: ISP PlusNet Launch Faster Hub Zero 2704n Broadband Router

Hi duncanbbd & dmason (sorry not to spot your post previously), welcome to the forum both.
Are you both on ADSL or Fibre?
The problem (as I understand it) is due to the device showing up as Unknown.
Is Netbios over TCPIP functional on the device? I believe that's relevant.
Do you have any other devices that are coming up as unknown? That's where I think it gets its knickers in a twist.
Login at http://192.168.1.254/expert_user.html and have a look at >Device Info >DHCP (also have a glance at ARP) not all devices appear under My Home Network on the Home page Huh
You could try setting up static IP addresses at >Advanced Setup >LAN
@paulmedwards1
Hi and welcome to you as well. All the above applies, so try the above if you feel inclined, as you on ADSL or Fibre?

The DNS servers aren't locked, you can use your own from the Home page, >Advanced Settings >DNS then choose Manual and set your own.
I would attach a screen grab, but forum uploads weren't working when last tried by several users Lips_are_sealed
As for hope/timing of a fix, well still hoping, waiting for an answer to my query ... nearly 3 months now Shocked
As for suggesting one that works properly, you said your Home Hub works, what's wrong with that?

Re: ISP PlusNet Launch Faster Hub Zero 2704n Broadband Router

yes, this a FIBRE modem,  I just got it recently.
and yes, I have multiple devices on the network (most as Unknown)
setting up static IP address is already done. it's not teh problem.  the Unknown and MAC address changing is the problem.
some bright spark used 'Unknown' the name as the reference when they designed this unit.
I will dig a bit deeper on the expert mode section (which was hidden from view until now)

I'm not sure if that's the issue, as previously mentioned, it's likely to be something to do with Netbios.
If you have a tech mind and like digging and playing, have a read of http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,137629.0.html
However, I wouldn't recommend playing with the firmware unless you are prepared for all the potential consequences
There are a few other threads on the Hardware board where you may see some tips on solving some issues (or not), also on the Fibre board. There's a small number on the ADSL board most of which will be relevant to either version. The ADSL (modem) side is actually very good. It's the Router side that's a pain with the current firmware.

Re: ISP PlusNet Launch Faster Hub Zero 2704n Broadband Router

all I can say is it worked with the previous  router for a number of years without problem . Wink
(I had fibre before, its just I 'upgraded' to the BT SPort package so got new router. )
not sure whether I go the route of buying a completely different router or moving provider.
