Re: will i be disappointed?

Slowly getting there !
Have you tried the BT Wholesale test with the extended tests ? Also make sure you're using a wired connection rather than wireless as this can make a huge difference.

Re: will i be disappointed?

Ha picbits has beaten me with much the same -
It's the modem that doesn't allow it, not the router. If you run the BTw Performance Test ignore the red pre-amble except make sure you are connected by ethernet and nothing else is using the Internet, let the first test complete and then click on Further diagnostics at the bottom, enter you phone number and run the test.
The results shows the BT IP Profile (and x1.033 gives the sync speed) - just do a copy and paste of that result page (no need to capture an image).
Also check your Current Line speed (Login required) that shouldmatch the BT IP profile (or be set at the default higher, until your connection has stabilised.

Re: will i be disappointed?

Thanks to you both.  I ran the extended test and this error appears
"The Performance Tester is currently unable to run a speed test for your broadband connection. Please try again shortly, however if this problem persists, raise the issue with your service provider."
Plusnets portal says the following:
"Estimated line speed:    69Mb (Accurate to within +/- 1Mbit) - Checked on 2013-03-13 12:30:42
Current line speed:  78 Mb"
Is there anyway I can get the sync speeds from the bt or modem ?

Re: will i be disappointed?

Nope, it means hacking the modem, not advised you may brick it and get a bill from Openretch!
Edit: Just keep trying the Speedtester It will work eventually!

Re: will i be disappointed?

After what seems like 1000000s of attempts the bt speedtester has finally shown me the extended information
Download speedachieved during the test was - 38.1 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speedsis 12 Mbps-38.72 Mbps .
Additional Information:
IP Profile for your line is - 38.72 Mbps
------------
Upload speed achieved during the test was - 8.76Mbps
Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 10 Mbps

am I correct to assume that I am on a 40/10 profile?  and if so, could someone from PN please look into it for me?

Re: will i be disappointed?

Something other people have mentioned is that you may need to reboot the modem when the 40/10 - 80/20 issue (if this is the case) has been sorted.
Others have said it has resynced when they have gone into the router settings and done a disconnect / reconnect.
Best to wait for one of the customer service guys to confirm if you're either on the wrong profile or if this is actually the max you'll get from the line.
What was your estimated line speeds before you signed up by the way ?

Re: will i be disappointed?

69.3mbit was my estimated down and 20mbit up.  I am about 50 metres from the cabinet by road and about 20 metres straight line.  The engineer said that another property a few doors down gets the full 80/2 connection and we are fed from the same pole.

Embarrassed I'm afraid so, just placing a modify order now to fix that tomorrow and passing on some feedback about the mistake, sorry about that.

Rats - I was 0.2Mb/s out  Grin
Hopefully you're all sorted and enjoy your connection speed as much as I'm enjoying mine (slightly slower than yours at 69.9Mb !)
