Re: Sam knows testing

Just had this email back from Sam Knows:
"Hello Rick,
Thank you for contacting SamKnows about your SamKnows Whitebox.
I can confirm that your Whitebox does have gigabit ports.
Thank you for your support."
This should clear things up then for us who were worried.
Rick.

Yes, we will send you a Whitebox with gigabit LAN ports. It supports internet traffic speeds of up to 540Mbps down/300Mbps up, but local traffic should transfer in full Gbit speeds.

Re: Sam knows testing

Sorry to sound stupid - But what does "It supports internet traffic speeds of up to 540Mbps down/300Mbps up" mean?  I have near on 80/20 - so I should be ok?

Re: Sam knows testing

80/20 is 80Mbps down 20Mbps up so plenty of room for when we get fibre to the premises

Re: Sam knows testing

Thanks for clearing that up - seems like we've all recently had the emails and filled the online form - hopefully they'll ship these out soon.

Re: Sam knows testing

What model is everyone getting?
Mine arrived today and is a TL-WR741 which only has 10/100M ports.
Like other I was never given the option for home network speed, however I've got a VMG8924 which has 10/100/1000M ports so it would degrade my network.

Re: Sam knows testing

Mine arrived today as well, and its also a TL-WR741, so its plugged into a spare port on my HH5, so they won't get the proper results as my NAS is on a gig port.
Looking at the website, it all looks fairly consistent so far, so looking to see how things go.

Re: Sam knows testing

Strange - Plusnet Roll_eyes invited me (by email) to take part in this trial.
Even though I got one from Sam Smiley a couple of years ago.
Mines actually connected properly.
It's some kind of Tp-Link router flashed with custom firmware.
Mine does test streaming speeds for YouTube, NetFlix and iPlayer as well as other stuff.
I've added last years download speeds.

Re: Sam knows testing

Ah, that explains why the streaming tests have no results, guess I will switch them off then!

Re: Sam knows testing

Mine arrived today http://www.tplink.com/en/products/details/cat-9_TL-WDR3600.html so full Gbit and a load of other features which I won't be using
