Re: Plusnet will give your personal details to ACS Law with not informing you!!

It almost certainly too late now, but much of that email dump (stupidly put there in public by ACS:Law if TorrentFreak is to be believed) is not only confidential and stuff between him and his wife just seems to be being published out of prurient  interest, but some of the emails will be privileged and totally inadmissible in a court, and if the court found that the entire file of emails was obtained illegally I think all of its contents and any findings made because a lead found in the emails would be inadmissible.  So whilst in the court of public opinion this will almost certinly damage ACS:Law and many others, in the courts of law it will probably count for nothing, indeed *may* make any investigation harder as evidence gathers may have prove that they were not tainted by the contents of these emails.
Edit: I have found something on the Bar Council website that contradicts much of what I say above.  So my NEW reading says, that whilst the people that originally obtained the emails may have been breaking the law, the use of the evidence in the emails is allowed in court.

Latest from the people working their way through the emails
Quote
This is a MASSIVE breach of data protection laws on Crossley's behalf. There are full credit card details of some of his victims stored in plain text emails.
If you paid ACS:Law call your credit card company, inform them your details have been leaked by ACS:Law and that you need a new account immediately.

I think you've misunderstood the email, BT Internet is an ISP, not BT.  That email is from a personal email address, not from BT corporate.

Yes but would not the management team at BT Internet not use their own domain for their email address and not bt.com?

Re: Plusnet will give your personal details to ACS Law with not informing you!!

I doubt it, but even if they do, an email from btinternet.com address, is far more likely to come from a BTInternet subscriber than it is from from a member of their staff, its just a matter of numbers.
And the reason ISP in general dont use the same email addresses as their customers is to prevent their being any confusion, to ensure that their customers are not accidentally or willfully mistaken for the corporate themselves.

I believe that there is a bit torrent somewhere that contains the emails.  Roll_eyes
i.e. It's effectively public knowledge - or will be very shortly!

In my opinion, I would rather not see quotations here - however if there are other websites with quotations then I can't see the harm in linking them for discussion.

Google is your friend.
With Googles recent updates to their search engine, it now pretty much keeps the internet indexed in real time.
This search is for "ACS:Law" with the "lastest" setting what you will find there will change constantly, but I'm pretty sure if you look carefully you will find whatever is actually out there.
