This Sunday will see the inaugural Plusnet Yorkshire Marathon grace the streets of York. Fifteen Plusnetters are set for the gruelling 26.2 miles run and a further team of six are joining forces to compete in the James Potter Eggs Corporate Challenge. They’ll also be many other staff getting up in the early hours of Sunday morning to support our sporting sponsorship, despite not lining up at the start line to run.
Familiar Faces
Amongst the runners on the day, the elite field will include John Mutai and Edwin Kiprop Korir, both from Kenya. Some other familiar faces taking part are Emmerdale’s Tony Audenhaw (Bob Hope), BBC Look North’s reporter, Harry Gration, Paralympian Hannah Cockcroft and former England defender – and Plusnet Fibre customer – Danny Mills. Over recent months a team of us have been working to ensure we maximise the Plusnet brand in both the build-up to the race and the actual event day. Our CEO, Jamie Ford will be part of the official starting party and will be helping the legendary cricket umpire Dickie Bird start the race. In addition, Jamie will be handing out the trophies to the winners of both the means and women’s elite fields.
Crowd support
Of course, the event isn’t just about the runners. We’ll be handing out approximately 15,000 thunder sticks and clapper boards for the crowd to show some noisy encouragement to those pounding the concrete. And if you’re heading to the event, come and find us in the runner’s village on the University of York campus. We’re constructing an interactive podium complete with sound effects.
Win with Plusnet!
Runners can pose with their family and friends and a life-size cut out of our infamous Joe with a photographer on hand picture to capture your proud moment. Pictures will be uploaded to our Plusnet Facebook page where you can tag yourself after the event.
