Nothing says a film-night like a big bucket of popcorn, but why restrict yourself to a world of sweet or salted? We say take the initiative and create your own flavours, it’s so easy and once you’ve tried it we reckon you’ll be hooked. Here are a couple of our favourites….

First step is to prepare your popcorn (you’ll need around 25g per serving). You can use microwavable popcorn in a bag or make your own. To make your own you’ll need a heavy bottomed saucepan with a lid. Pour 2-3 tablespoons oil into the pan along with corn kernels. Cover and heat. Once the kernels have popped remove pan from heat. Next choose your preferred flavour from the two below and follow the instructions.

Buttery Maple Popcorn (Makes two servings)

  • 50g Popcorn
  • 50g butter
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup

Heat the butter in a separate saucepan over medium heat. Once it’s melted, stir in the maple syrup. Carefully spoon the popcorn into the buttery mixture and stir together. If you have a lid for the pan place this on top and, holding the lid in place with your hand, gently shake. Transfer buttery popcorn to a serving bowl.

Spicy Curry Popcorn (Makes two servings)

  • 50g butter
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional - for spice)

Heat the butter in a separate saucepan over medium heat. As it melts stir in the spices. Once well combined take off the heat. Transfer popped corn to a serving bowl and drizzle over the spicy butter mix.

Let us know if you’ve got any other weird and wonderful flavour combinations you think we should try!
