Plusnet's Top Cinema Picks

It’s hard to ignore that it’s awards season right now, and there are so many good films to see at the moment that it’s difficult to pick. The good news is that we’re not just helpful when it comes to broadband, here’s our take on the best films to see at the cinema right now. Plus, if you get our newsletter, then you can also enter our competition to win one of 500 pairs of cinema tickets!

The big players

The films everyone is talking about, up for the big prizes at the Oscars in March. We reckon British actor Sally Hawkins’ film The Shape of Water is definitely worth a look, as The Guardian puts it, ‘Girl meets hot fish monster, falls in love, plots to break him out of a top-secret government research facility’. Bonkers but brilliant.

If that doesn’t take your fancy then how about The Darkest Hour? Gary Oldman takes on the challenge of bringing Winston Churchill to life just as he’s been made Prime Minister, holding the fate of a nation in his hands. Compelling, stirring, and worth it just for the incredible make-up involved in turning Oldman into Churchill.

Best of the rest

If Oscar bait doesn’t take your fancy, what else is out? Round here at Plusnet Towers there’s a lot of enthusiasm for Black Panther, the latest superhero film from Marvel. With a stellar cast and properly good soundtrack, even if you’re not a Marvel fan it’d be hard not to like this one.

If it’s an outing with the kids that you’re after then Coco might be a good shout. This animated Disney-Pixar tale about a young Mexican boy unlocking his family’s history also involves a thrilling journey through the land of the dead and some excellent guitar playing.

There’s also Game Night, Red Sparrow and Peter Rabbit to look forward to in the next few weeks – loads of good stuff to see us through ‘till spring!
