Solar panel issue

Hello and good morning, could anyone help with my situation please. It started since my wifi upgrade.

my router hub one. Since it started to operate, my solar panel inverter stop communicating. The solaredge personnel requested me to informed my internet provider ie plusnet for a whitelist a domain on the firewall of the router for the following:-

1. Server: prodssl.solaredge.com (SetApp)

    Port:443

2. Server: prodfqdn.solaredge.com (LCD Screen)

    Port: 443

3. Server: prod.solaredge.com

    Port: 502, 22221 and 22222

4. Server: prod2.solaredge.com

    Ports: 502, 22221 and 22222

Your expert advice to resolve the situation will be deeply appreciated.

Re: Solar panel issue

@leehayward The solaredge personnel requested me to informed my internet provider ie plusnet for a whitelist a domain on the firewall of the router for the following:-

Almost certainly, complete rubbish!.

I'm guessing that the solar panel system and the app connect to the Solaredge servers , in which case it is an outgoing connection and as such is not blocked by any firewall.

It started since my wifi upgrade.

my router hub one

Are you a new Plusnet customer ? if so I'm confused as to why you would have a Hub one and not a Hub Two ?

Have you successfully connected your Solar panel system to the wifi on the Plusnet router ? or does it connect via ethernet ?

@MisterW

The question that comes to mind is whether the problem is that the Inverter is failing to connect to SolarEdge ot whether the actual problem is that SolarEdge is unable to connect to a local monitoring device.

@leehayward  can you give further details.

Re: Solar panel issue

Hello, thanks for your respond. Yes im a plusnet customer. Yes it’s hub 0ne i was sent since 1/2023. The old connection was Ethernet done by the engineer. I did ring the plusnet customer services however they said all is well connected. I’m in a spot of a bother. Being no knowledge on IT. What’s next????

Re: Solar panel issue

The old connection was Ethernet done by the engineer

So there was an ethernet cable connected to your old router, yes ?

Have you disconnected that from the old router and connected it to one of the LAN ports on the Hub one ? DO NOT connect it to the red WAN port

I did ring the plusnet customer services however they said all is well connected

They will be referring to your internet connection from the router, they will have no means to check whether your solar system is correctly connected to the router

Re: Solar panel issue

Hello, well what happened was i used to be able to view the platform of the solar panel however since the transferred from BT line rental to plusnet, I couldn’t view ever since. Communication stopped since. I’m IT illiterate. I panicked , plusnet customer service referred me to the community. The solar personnel mentioned my system has not communicated since 5th December 2022. ‘’The whole loss of communication is leaning more towards firewall ports on the internet that are not open so the inverter can connect.’’ Hence the request for the 4 items.

Re: Solar panel issue

I dont know, the inverter was all wired up no sign of Ethernet. It’s wireless now. I didn’t use the Ethernet at all now.

Previously back then there weren’t wireless, so i guessed the installer did what had to be done. I’m IT illiterate.

Re: Solar panel issue

since the transferred from BT line rental to plusnet,

So to be clear here , you've recently transferred from BT broadband to Plusnet ?

In doing that, your BT router has been replaced with the Plusnet Hub one ?

Your Solar system was connected by ethernet to your old BT router ?

Re: Solar panel issue

So it worked on Ethernet. When did you change to wireless? Was in around Dececember 2022 when it stopped communicating with SolarEdge? If so have you fitted the optional wireless module and reconfigured the Solar Edge to use this? As @MisterW has said, this is nothing to do with Firewalls.

Re: Solar panel issue

I think the changed happened as soon as I  received the hub. I didn’t use the Ethernet when using my iPad. I don’t have a pc. I am not 100% sure the solar panel installer done exactly. I trust his work. It worked alright till my router arrived, changed of password and so forth. It never occurred to me that I have to amend anything. Then corvid crept in. I only realise a couple of weeks ago that the inverter stopped communicating. In actual fact, my metering reading stay stagnant since Sept 2023. I wasn’t aware then till now. Then I checked through my correspondence with ovo energy and realised my ignorance. I hope it can be resolve asap as it’s getting a little too much to handle. How to I configure with iPad as my tool, i dont own a computer.

Re: Solar panel issue

Hello again,

yes to your questions.however, Plusnet is the internet provider, BT was the line rental not internet provider.

l moved my line rental to plusnet since dec 2023. They sent the hub one to replace the old router.

Re: Solar panel issue

I think you'd be best either getting the installer back or a friend/relative who's a bit more IT aware
