Can anyone tell me what the latest firmware version is for the Plusnet Hub 1 and how often updated versions tend to be issued?

The latest versions are in the post pinned at the top of this Router board. They are updated when there is an update.to release.

@MJJ1  if you wanted to make the most of your Plusnet Hub 1, 

you could install  OpenWRT  firmware instead, and vastly improve your router's capabilities !

It doesn't look too difficult to achieve, just needing a little patience and careful following of the instructions.
