Replacing Hub2 to allow renaming 2.4 and 5G WiFi networks

Hi
I'm a thoroughly satisfied PlusNet customer except for one issue - why does the Hub2 not allow me to give the 2.4 and 5G WiFi networks different names? Have these people never tried to install a smart bulb?!?
Anyway, this being the case, can anyone suggest a new router that will replace by Hub2, not cause PlusNet any problems if I need their support, AND give me the ability to give the two WiFi networks different names? Many thanks and Merry Xmas.

If they're 2.4ghz only, then try disabling the 5ghz band on the Hub2 , connect the smart bulb and then re-enable the 5ghz

Thanks for the reply. Yes, that's exactly what I did but I'd still like to permanently have separately named WiFi networks for both frequency ranges (and have done his pre-PlusNet) - hence my question for a tried and tested router to replace my Hub2.

That's an interesting option I'd not thought about. I think I'd still rather just replace the Hub2 though - ideally with something that some other PlusNet user can recommend. Cheers.

Re: Replacing Hub2 to allow renaming 2.4 and 5G WiFi networks

I've still got a Hub 1 kicking around and I'm seriously thinking of reverting to that to get over this issue.

I know it's WiFi coverage isn't as good but I think I've got all the coverage I need now with powerline extenders, even to the far end of my garden which is at least 50m from my router and the other side of the house.

(Every unit has a different SSID to avoid confusion and some use older security protocols to support older devices)

Do you just need a router ? i.e are you on Full fibre or do you need a combined modem/router ?

Re: Replacing Hub2 to allow renaming 2.4 and 5G WiFi networks

A cheaper alternative…

Turn your spare router into a wireless point and connect it to your Hub2.

This will allow you to set up separate 5 and 2.4 channels with different ssids if required, plus you get a couple of extra network ports.

Win, win.

Sorry, yes I'm in full fibre and would need to support this with anything I choose to replace my Hub2.

This is starting to sound like my best option.

Re: Replacing Hub2 to allow renaming 2.4 and 5G WiFi networks

For full fibre , this https://www.amazon.co.uk/Cudy-WR3000S-Ethernet-Antennas-Wireguard/dp/B0CYT3Q54S/ref=asc_df_B0CYT3Q54... would be fine.

I currently use a WR3000H ( same as WR3000s but has a 2.5Gb WAN port ) on my Full fibre 900. You can either use the standard Cudy firmware or convert to standard Openwrt ( which is what I've done ). I believe the standard firmware will support split SSIDs https://www.cudy.com/en-gb/blogs/faq/how-to-customize-wireless-settings-on-cudy-router
