Plusnet Hub 2 - static device issue

Any known issues or some weird config on the above?

New Hub2, one of the devices on the LAN is a home automation system on a static IP 192.168.1.55 (outside of the dhcp range), works fine standalone on old BT router and other Billion router.

Patch it into the Hub 2 and cant get any local comms to the home automation system. Can see it fine in the static list and ping it but thats it. Have tried firewall on and off on the Hub.

Almost like its blocked or filtered.

@JC4 does that mean just ping it from the router ? or can you ping it from elsewhere on the local LAN ?

Re: Plusnet Hub 2 - static device issue

I can ping the home automation (MiniServer 1.55) from other devices patched on the LAN (can’t say I tried it using any router tools directly). Link lights on and all looks normal when I patch it into the Hub2, just can’t connect to it using the specialist automation software on my laptop.

Plug it all back to the old Sky router and its sweet. I’m not 100% sure how the specialist software connects or on what ports but it detects it okay on the Plusnet Hub2 just fails to connect.

At first I thought some kind of MAC address or filtering/firewall was stopping it but scratching my head now.

I need to setup port forwarding for remote access on the Hub2, through to the Home Automation system but if I can’t administer the miniserver system locally then I’m stuck.

@JC4  yes, I thought that, then changed my mind. The fact that ping works confirms that's not a problem.

Plug it all back to the old Sky router and its sweet.

Is the LAN IP address for the Sky router the same as the Hub 2 (192.168.1.254) ? if not, the default gateway will need changing on the Miniserver.

I’m not 100% sure how the specialist software connects or on what ports but it detects it okay on the Plusnet Hub2 just fails to connect.

Its possible that the software communicates via an external server, in which case the Miniserver will need to communicate to the internet, for which it will need the default gateway to be correct for the Hub 2

edit: or you could try changing the LAN IP and subnet of the Hub2 to match the Sky router...

Re: Plusnet Hub 2 - static device issue

Yes both are pretty much identical (192.168.1.55 for the miniserver), dhcp scope of 1.150 to 1.253 gateway IP 1.254 (left all these out the box for the Hub2 for now). Default gateway on Miniserver checked 1.254.

Same configs work fine on BT Homehub, Billion router, Sky router, just doesnt work via the Plusnet Hub2.

Re: Plusnet Hub 2 - static device issue

I reckon the Loxone admin software detects the miniserver on one port/protocol and maybe sends the login creds on another. Its only the ‘login creds’ that fail when its plugged into the Hub2.

Re: Plusnet Hub 2 - static device issue

The Hub2 shows the Loxone as a static on 1.55 and the correct MAC address.

Re: Plusnet Hub 2 - static device issue

Very strange.

It shouldnt affect LAN communication but is there a upnp setting on the Hub 2 ?

I'm not using my Hub 2 at the moment so cant check directly but I seem to recall the ability to turn it on & off

Re: Plusnet Hub 2 - static device issue

The Hub2 shows the Loxone as a static on 1.55 and the correct MAC address.

Sorry, I'm confused now. Surely the Loxone config utility is running on the laptop, the Miniserver has the 1.55 static IP ?

Re: Plusnet Hub 2 - static device issue

Correct yes. Config utility on a laptop (and also a mobile app). The mobile app logs into it fine over LAN on BT and Sky, but again fails when the Plusnet Hub is the router.

I’ll see if I can hunt a upnp setting in case.

Re: Plusnet Hub 2 - static device issue

I believe UPnP is enabled by default, the setting can be found

Advanced Settings >Firewall >Configuration

Re: Plusnet Hub 2 - static device issue

@JC4

This is a bit outside my experience, but have you tried giving the problematic device a static IP address within the DHCP range, which I think is 192.168.1.64 to 253 by default?

Just to see if it makes any difference.

Re: Plusnet Hub 2 - static device issue

Thanks, no not yet (it’s a domestic customers site) so will check on my next visit, I was there doing the external wifi :0)

The Miniserver defaults to 1.77 static if it cant find a dhcp server on the LAN if I am right (was only keeping it static so I could do the port forwarding for remote access). I’ll give that a go though along with the uPNP, will try an address within the range.
