Hub 2 and reserved IP addresses

My Hub 1 has recently been replaced as I was getting many restarts lasting just under 2 minutes (although sometimes up to 5 minutes). Support said there was a known problem and sent me a Hub 2. This is in standard mode but with wifi turned off as I have several BT Whole Home discs all connected by ethernet. I am trying to set up a number of reserved IP addresses (well, most of them) but this seems very flaky. It would appear that I have to select 'yes' to always use this address, save it and then set the address and save again. However, I have got the Whole Home discs on the IPs I want using a Netgear D6400 - which has much better r4served address allocation - but now gone back to the Hub 2. The 'always use this address now says 'NO'. Setting it to 'YES' and saving it does not retain it and next time I look, it has gone back to 'NO'! It does seem to keep re-issuing the same address but I want to lock it.

This also applies to other devices, not just the WiFi discs. Some of the IP addresses I try to set come up with an error of 'IP address already in use, select another' although listing devices by IP address does not show this as in use elsewhere. Anyone got any tips/answers - probably get a 'real' router and just use the Hub 2 in bridge mode!

I have about 64 IP connections in total back to the router.

If I move to EE (I'd like to go full fibre but keep my landline) would I get the same hub, just re-branded?

Re: Hub 2 and reserved IP addresses

Why not just use the Netgear D6400 as your router as you are already using the discs for WiFi.
Was a member for years, but moved from PN fttc to fttp from an AltNet. Getting 940Mb up and down. Happy to stay on here and try to help others. 

@Bellringer65   no. EE would likely supply you with an EE Smart Hub plus, which has WiFi6 and must be the first device if you are going to be taking EE's Digital Voice for your landline/voice service.

You do not have to move to EE to keep your landline number.  You can port to a standard 3rd party VOIP provider.

PN will try to avoid letting you think this.

The EE 'tower' has had issues with getting the landline socket to work correctly anyway - they have been known to give out wi-fi DECT phones to customers / victims

Re: Hub 2 and reserved IP addresses

Yes, I'd thought of that. Need to work out what I need to do other than put PN Hub into bridge and connect to Netgear via the WAN input. Not sure if I need user name, password etc added to Netgear.

Re: Hub 2 and reserved IP addresses

The Netgear D6400 is a modem / router, you don’t need the Hub 2.

@Bellringer65

I'm trying to work out how you have got this lot connected.

First can you comfirm whether you are on FTTC part fibre or FTTP Full Fibre?

You either need to be using the D6400 and BT discs, or the Plusnet Hub 2 and BT discs.  It reads as though you are using all three?

Is it just that you need help connecting the D6400 directly to your incoming phone line master socket or if FTTP, ONT?

Re: Hub 2 and reserved IP addresses

I'm FTTC. No, I'm not using all three. It's just that I thought FTTC is VDSL2 but the D6400 manual only says VDSL on its headings so I wasn't sure if I could use it. I've just done a search for VDSL2 in the manual and found it so will try it out when I've got time. I assume I will need my PN user name and PW - I think I can find them fairly easily.

Re: Hub 2 and reserved IP addresses

@Bellringer65

Thanks for the clarification. The settings are here: https://www.plus.net/help/broadband/broadband-connection-settings/

Use the ones titles 'What settings should I use for fibre broadband'.

Don't forget to add @plusdsl.net with no spaces to your account username, as in fred@plusdsl.net.
