Sorry, but I don't believe they are. There's no evidence from the log that the internet (PPPoE) connection is dropping, its all DHCP logs. Short of Openreach maintenance, I wouldnt expect any PPPoE drops on an FTTP connection.

The problem here is the Tenda MW5 acting as a DHCP server. Its being 'clever' because its actually providing the address of the Hub 2 (192.168.1.254) as the DNS & Default gateway, which in itself is 'odd'.

When it decides to act as DHCP it will be overriding the manual DNS settings you made in the Hub2 and giving devices the Hub 2 (192.168.1.254) as tye DNS server.

If you really want to use the Tenda, then I suggest forgetting about the Hub 2, configure the Tenda main unit for PPPoE and connect it directly to the ONT.

OK so now I've removed the Hub Two entirely... and the internet is still poor - but better than with the Hub Two

It's not the devices

Define 'poor'.

Drops constantly. Right this minute, I've tried opening another website and it hasn't loaded. I've reloaded that site and it has worked. It works OK for a minute, and then dies for a minute. That's the same on ethernet or wifi - whether it's a laptop, or a TV, or a tablet, or a phone.

I've just spent an hour on the phone to PN and they agree there's an issue and they've asked BT Wholesale to take a look.

So far then I've remobved the Hub Two from the picture and the internet is the same.

I've removed the Tenda Nova from the picture and it's the same.

There's an issue here

Re: FTTP > Hub Two > DNS - Internet ‘does’ every night

@mattsando what FTTP product are you on ?

I can't find any real specs for the Tenda MW5 but I wonder if its not capable of handling the throughput when its being asked to handle the PPPoE connection ?

If that's the case, then your initial plan to use it in bridge mode would have been the preferred solution as it would remove the processing requirement of the PPPoE. However, it does seem to have a problem in that, even when its DHCP server is disabled , it still wants to provide DHCP functionality. My guess is that its acting as a (badly implemented?) DHCP Relay server which is causing all sorts of problems.

Re: FTTP > Hub Two > DNS - Internet ‘does’ every night

Which - Tenda or Hub2 - is in use at the moment? The logs you provided last night from the Hub2 merely consisted of devices disconnecting/connecting from to the Hub.

I've been switching back-andforth because I'm just trying everything.

Currently, just the Hub Two:

ONT > Hub Two

And that's it. I've disconnected the ethernets and everything. It's just 1 router supplying wifi across the house.

Explain how my internet is still up-and-down today when I'm just using the Hub Two?

Forgive me, but I keep getting people trying to explain away my issues because I'm not using PN equipment. Now, I'm not using my own equipment... And my internet is still very much up-and-down whether I am connecte via WiFi or Ethernet to a myriad of devices.

Can you post the Hub 2 log again then please ?

Do the lights on the ONT change when you say the internet is down ?

Re: FTTP > Hub Two > DNS - Internet ‘does’ every night

Fix

This may be coincidental correlation but I've just spotted something that might be relevant to the latest observations.

Since yesterday afternoon (23/06) @mattsando has been assigned various public IP's in the range 146.200.79.X

I happened across the thread here yesterday which contains posts from two other customers who are/were also assigned IP's from this range.

Wouldn't explain the historic problems but might go towards explaining what's being seen now that it's just the Hub Two in situ.

@mattsando - any objection to me temporarily assigning you a static IP to see if the problem goes away?

@mattsando - done. You'll need to drop and re-establish the broadband connection.

I haven't noticed any change in them at all when the issue is occurring. It'd hard to obsever because it's so quickly down and then back up again.  Loading these forums was about 3 minutes of refreshing until it loaded.
