Can my plusnet router be set to auto reboot on failed ping

I often work away from home and therefore have no way of rebooting my router remotely of the connection goes down.
Can my router be set up to auto reboot if its frequent pings fail?

@geraldwy   no, of course not. How would any router know if it did not get a ping?

I'm guessing you don't know much about routers. A ping is merely a routed connection confirmation to server which is basically what routers are made for.

Re: Can my plusnet router be set to auto reboot on failed ping

OK, so what routers can do that?

Oh, and by the way, routers are there to route traffic, dealing with stuff like pings is a luxury, and if busy just get ignored.

Looking forward to learning more about routers 😀

So how exactly do they route traffic?
I will wait for your response.

Let me give you a clue.. ICMP echo request but I'm not here to argue with or teach anyone so your agressive response is not appreciated. Also not particularly helpful with my question.

No. clearly I have no idea, like I said before please do tell/

But do they not help a source get to an somewhere, and what do they do to them who just ask are you there? Which is more important when they are a bit busy?

I suggest to reread and rewrite that so it's legible because it's currently not making any sense!

Ps the only part I understood is the first sentence. I did tell you by saying ICMP echo request to answer your question which you should already know but clearly didn't.

@geraldwy   ok, sorry if you think ai am not trying to help, and my answers are not legible or making sense. It is not a question I have ever seen before.

But, do you know of any router that is capable of a reboot on not getting regular pings?

And would any ISP include the function?

OK now that you've taken time out to Google to see I know what I'm talking about you've come back asking me my original question back at me.
Honestly do you think you are being helpful?

Re: Can my plusnet router be set to auto reboot on failed ping

@geraldwy   OK, end of conversation, but no Google, just ask yourself this, can you imagine the chaos of any router manufacturer that allowed an external series of events to reboot it, or worse open it up to attack?

Re: Can my plusnet router be set to auto reboot on failed ping

Yes please end it because you are contributing nothing by first stating it was impossible and how. Then when told its basics of the IP protocol then googling to try and see ICMP looking up routers generally block responses. Trying to find a way to seem like you know what you are talking about when sending out is not the same as responding to ICMP requests. Further not understanding isps can have higher levels of access to routers.
Yes please end so I can get an answer from tom someone who knows what they are talking about and not giving rude responses. Have a good night.
I'm a head of it so can tell [-Censored-] quite quickly so spare me the grief please.

No.

If a fault happens to trigger a firmware reset it should auto restart, but you will lose any personalised settings.

@geraldwy  If your connection goes down your time may be better spent finding out why. If it's a line fault then report it.
