Add drive to Hub One

I would like to add a self powered hard drive to my Hub One router. When doing so I see no additional drive has been connected digitally,

What are the capabilities and limitations of the USB port on the Hub One router? Plusnet offer no support.

Re: Add drive to Hub One

@paulscarbs

You will find many threads about the woes of attempting to connect a drive to the Hub One.

They can be summarized as the Hub One only supports SMB 1 and modern operating systems don't like SMB 1.

Read:

I stand by my comment that if you want to do this buy a NAS.

In my view, if you can afford it buy a Synology NAS.

Re: Add drive to Hub One

Thanks for your reply.

I enabled SMB1 within Windows (have since reverted back) but no extra drive was discovered.

It is also worth noting that the Hub One unit does not show anything connected to the USB port!

Plusnet offer no support in this!

@paulscarbs

Probably not the issue but the drive needs to be formatted FAT 32.

My first bet would be power consumption.

Try a memory stick. Others have made that work.

Re: Add drive to Hub One

I have a USB powered small HDD - 320GB - working fine.

It will show up in the router interface, so something amiss there - as above check with a flash drive first.

Re: Add drive to Hub One

I have read the Hub One accepts three device formats. Can somebody confirm?

USB device visible in Hub One control panel.

No access to the device in Windows however!

Re: Add drive to Hub One

Can anyone provide me with further things to check or explain why my Hub One will not recognise a HDD, or a USB within Windows?

Re: Add drive to Hub One

Plan B, This works on my Smarthub so should work:

1.Plug the memory in to your router

2. Log into your Router

3. Enter Run in the Search field in the bottom left hand corner of your Windows desktop

4. Select App

5. Enter \\192.168.1.254

6. Explorer Window opens showing Shared Disk

7. Right click Shared Disk and select Map Network Drive

8. Select a Drive Letter or leave on Z:. The Folder should already be set to \\192.168.1.254

9. Select Finish

10. The new drive appears in Explorer.

Re: Add drive to Hub One

Hi, thanks for sticking with this.

Windows cannot find 'App'.

Regardless, when I open the address within explorer it brings me to the Hub One credentials.

If I browse drives in explorer, there are no additional drive options so cannot 'Map' it.

Re: Add drive to Hub One

Hello, my response below yours.

Plan B, This works on my Smarthub so should work:

1.Plug the memory in to your router

2. Log into your Router

3. Enter Run in the Search field in the bottom left hand corner of your Windows desktop

4. Select App

5. Enter \\192.168.1.254

- this only worked once I enabled SMB (not recommended due to increased security risk)

6. Explorer Window opens showing Shared Disk

- the Plusnet Hub One opened on mine.

7. Right click Shared Disk and select Map Network Drive

- Map Network Drive is a feature in Windows Explorer. Why did I need to go through the process above?

Am I missing something?

Re: Add drive to Hub One

@paulscarbs

I'm just reporting what works for me.

I understand that it's SMB v1 that's not recommended, not the current version. I believe that the Hub One USB port was originally only compatible with SMB v1, so that could be your issue. I don't know if the current firmware version, which end .263 has updated this.

Which router firmware version are you running?
