Order for full fibre and retaining fixed IP.

Hi,

Just ordered full‑fibre after finally receiving the Openreach e‑mail (excitement intensifies).

I have read conflicting reports and e‑mails about whether a fixed IP address is retained when upgrading. I have been with PN for almost two decades and have several additional setups that depend on the IP address assigned when I first joined. Could PN, or anyone else, confirm that the IP address will remain the same when the installation takes place in two weeks' time?

Thanks,
Paul

Fix

@darkgen An upgrade, on the same account, retains the fixed IP. If, for any reason, it inadvertently gets 'lost', staff on here can retrieve it for you, but it is normally a straight switch.

@darkgen

As stated, you should retain your Fixed IP address. However, I would check after the upgrade that this is the case. If, for any reason, you lose the fixed IP you need to contact PN asap.

As to email you retain this and all add ons. However, I assume you're aware PN are in the process of transferring email to a third party provider. It remains free for the first two years after transfer (assuming you stay with PN) and is then £15 a year. The good news is that, after migration if you leave PN you can retain your PN email by paying the annual charge.

@jab1 @bmc

Thanks for the prompt replies. It sounds as if I should be set to go on upgrade day – time will tell!

I am aware of the email migration, although I suspect that pure PN addresses will not likely be implemented til next year as part of the wider migration.

Paul.

@darkgen Re: email. You are correct. The email 'migration' appears to have been infected with 'gremlins' and is, from what I understand, slightly behind schedule, but still proceeding.

Re: Order for full fibre and retaining fixed IP.

The static IP address was retained and trouble free when I upgraded to full fibre.

The billing is another matter, but came out OK in the end.

I am the satisfied customer....
