Tethering my laptop to my phone

I am unable to use mobile hot spot with my laptop.

Has anyone any tips please?

What problems are you having ?

On your phone open up the data connection

Open up the Hotspot you will be given a name of the Hotspot connection eg Android AP4157 and a password make a note of them

Look on your laptop for available network connections click onto it and connect using  password 

The laptop should save it for next time you need to use it

When I click to connect it just comes up with unable to connect.

Am I missing something obvious?

Does your mobile phone network permit tethering - a number of them don't?

In the bottom LHS of your laptop in the search box type WiFi  setting the WiFi should be switched on

I can connect to other wifi networks, that is why I am confused.

@vcpuk Connecting to other networks (in cafes/shops?) is different to tethering, and as I have said, some mobile providers do not permit it. Have you checked if yours does?

I would have thought if the phone gives you a WiFi address and password it should connect

Should work no problem I never had a problem

Does the data work on the phone check the APN setting

If still no joy call PN from your phone 500 and ask them

@vcpuk  Which make of mobile ?

Have you tried scanning Wi-Fi networks on your laptop ? 

The mobile's network name may not be the same as the one you're expecting to see..

JooI, have you tried restarting your phone?

It can resolve a lot of problems easily!
