Transfer Phone from Plusnet to EE

Due to my Contract coming up for renewal I contacted Plusnet to check what will happen to my Phone after copper lines disappear since the new contract would be in place when it happens. I think I spoke to Jeff and he adviced that if I needed a Phone line it would be best to switch to EE, so I arranged the switch with him.
What I forgot to ask about was 'do I have to do anything to keep my existing Phone Number', since it is Plusnet that had arranged the switch to EE will it automatically get ported over?

Switchover date is set for a week today on 29 May 2025.

Cheers,

Colin.

Re: Transfer Phone from Plusnet to EE

If Plusnet have initiated a full transfer to EE, things will remain largely as is, with the exception that the phone service (retaining your number) will move from PTSN to Digital Voice (BT's proprietary VoIP service).  You will receive a new router from EE.

Your old router should be returned to Plusnet.

A note of caution: if you use Plusnet's email services, they will cease IMMEDIATELY on the broadband moving to EE.

Also note that you will have to plug your phone into the EE router, rather than the master socket or extension socket as it will be at present.

Re: Transfer Phone from Plusnet to EE

Further to my previous message I did have confirmation of my switchover date being set for 29 May 2025 but today I received the following message from EE:

Hi from EE.

Sorry for the delay. We're still working to provide you with service for your order VOL###-############.

We'll be in touch within the next eight working days with a further update.

Thanks.

Does this mean the switch is unlikely to happen on the 29th and therefore I shouldn't swap over my Hub to the new EE one ready for that day?.

And do I contact Plusnet (since they have organised the switch to EE and I have only dealt with them so far) or EE ? (if there are any problems).

Cheers,

Colin.

Re: Transfer Phone from Plusnet to EE

as per the EE forum

@ColinXSD   Your pusnet router should carry on working until the switchover takes place, so it would be best to wait until it stops working.

By all means give PN a call, I suspect they will not know to much other than there is a delay. EE may be able to give you more detailed info, my bet is a delay on Digital Voice, but who knows.

@Townman

Thanks for this answer which confirms my worst fears about this EE Digital Phone package -namely, I would lose my plusnet email addresses if I switched to it.

Re: Transfer Phone from Plusnet to EE

@ColinXSD

It might not be too late to cancel the move but you'd need to call PN today.

Yes - you lose your PN e-mail address at this time. If you stay with PN until PN emails are migrated to Greenby(??) then you'd be able to keep the address at a cost of £15 per annum.

If you choose to stay with PN for now on an "as is" basis (with phone) you can be transferred to EE at any time free of ETC's.

If your @account.plus.com email address(es) is(are) critical to you, you might be better off...

  1. Cancelling the transfer to EE
  2. Then one of
    1. Renew with PlusNet as is
    2. Switch to Plusnet SOGEA or FTTP and transfer the voice to a VOIP provider of your choice
    3. Not renew with Plusnet and pay the out of contract price for a few months until the email service has migrated to Greenby and then re-order with EE

Note that if the email is on the Plusnet broadband account, it will remain free to two years, irrespective of what you do with the broadband service after the migration of email.

@Townman

Thanks for the advice. What is the business with the email migrating to Greenby (whoever Greenby are)?
