Re: Dital switch confusion

In that case then, the only thing you will need to do is unplug from the upstairs plug socket and plug into the phone socket on the router. Honestly don't know if the BT phone would work, though.

My latest 'middle of the night' worry is my computer connects to the internet using an ethernet lead. It doesn't have wifi.

I am sorry to keep asking more things, I feel such a dope.

That connection is perfectly OK, and should continue to function.

Re: Dital switch confusion

@nuttyknitter

We have a Panasonic base phone which is plugged into the phone socket upstairs and a handset phone downstairs. We also have a BT phone plugged directly into a phone socket in the kitchen.

Aa @jab1 says, the base will plug into the new router and the handset downstairs will still work.

The phone plugged into the phone socket will NOT work though.

Thanks! That's OK then, no problem there with moving away from Plusnet.

@nuttyknitter

House phone extensions don't work with VOIP without some work. Quite easy with Full Fibre but a bit more complicated with SOGEA (FTTC without the phone).

As you have two DECT phones these will work as normal but you'll lose the BT phone in the kitchen. Can you add units to the DECT system you already have?

Did you check the OpenReach site to see what it says for Full Fibre?

Re: Dital switch confusion

@bmc Given the abysmal figures for this customers connection, I would hazard a guess that they are in a remote/hard to reach location, which mean FTTP is likely to be a long way off.

@jab1

You could well be right but there's no harm / cost in checking.

With those estimates, voip might be a struggle especially when there's other traffic on the connection

Re: Dital switch confusion

Good point, @MisterW , although it should be OK on SOGEA?

Re: Dital switch confusion

But even the SoGEA estimates are low, indicating a long line. That likely means high error counts and latency.

The upstream estimate is 800k and whilst 200k is technically sufficient for voip,  if there's any other traffic ?

I don't know if/what SQM is implemented by EE for their digital voice, I hope it's good...

Fair enough, and I take your point.

Re: Dital switch confusion

@bmc  Yes I went on the website and it said there are no plans to bring Full Fibre to us.

I will look into whether I can buy some extra handsets and hopefully I will be able to get another one.

@nuttyknitter what is the exact make and model of your DECT phone?

Re: Dital switch confusion

We are a third of a mile down a lane from a main road, between a village and a small town. I think Openreach put something in underground at the top of the lane next to the main road. There is a sort of slab thing over the top of it.

My computer is slower when the kids come out of school in the afternoon, so I guess they take something off what I can use.

That will be a chamber, to allow connection to properties in the vicinity, @nuttyknitter . Your location is 'off the beaten track', so it will be a while until they get to you.
