I'm in game currently, average 14-21 ping does fluctuate between those ranges but the original problem of having lagged zones randomly is gone.

Re: Latency issues whilst Gaming (Path Of Exile)

PoE has been great this past week, stable, fast ping and no packet loss on the London EU servers. Hoping for the same performance as the Flashback league kicks off tonight, good luck to all PoE players for this one month!

How's everyones gaming now that the issues Here seem to be fixed?

We believed the problems to be related.

Re: Latency issues whilst Gaming (Path Of Exile)

Hi guys,

Don't know if you remember me, I'm reaching out again regarding an issue that you actually solved ages ago. It was regarding Path of Exile and latency spikes in this post. Unfortunately, the dream didn't last long and just recently I've started experiencing similar issues as before. This time, YouTube or Twitch is irreverent and a post in this thread pretty much sums up what I've been experiencing -

I'm also getting intermittent latency issues with Path of Exile.  Game runs fine 80% of the time but can lag (stutter) or freeze for a few seconds then recover (your character speeds up like crazy to perform the keyboard inputs from when the screen froze

I can also confirm that the reason for the character speeding up after a lag spike is due to a networking mode hes running in PoE. There's 'Predictive' and 'Lockstep', Lockstep is what I used to run before the initial issues started sometime in June. Although now, I pretty much have to run Predictive which can cause really nasty desync (teleports the character back) during those spikes.

I am quite familiar with WinMTR I used this as my standard testing method back in June. I always used to play on the London server although same results occur throughout all servers. There really wasn't any packet loss ever, only those few percentages that didn't come through which is normal for all games/servers.

Again, just to get that info out, the normal ping which i used to get sometime before June was constant 10-15 and nothing above. In fact i used get to excited of how good my ping in PoE was because it was literally, a constant dead-straight line. Obviously there were those inevitable spikes but they were really rare.

Now however, it's really random. It will stay at 16 ping for a tick (second) and then spike to 45, go back down to 16 and repeat, and that's if I'm 'away' and sitting in my hideout. When I'm playing it'll pretty much be the same but the spikes instead could go to 80, 150, 400, even 700. There are even moments where my ping constantly doesn't drop below 100 and just goes on a seizure of some sort. This usually lasts for anywhere between 10-30 seconds. Something else to mention is that it happens throughout the whole day. Doesn't matter if I'm up at 5 am during a business day or later in the evening on a weekend.

Here are the WinMTR results for the London server which I play on - I let it run for a bit whilst simultaneously playing the game. I experienced one major seizure which lasted around 12 seconds.

Lastly, I've actually never considered running through a VPN. Although, the more i think about it the more i want to try it. Tomorrow, after work I'll see if i can purchase or possibly get a trial VPN and have it tested.

Re: Latency issues whilst Gaming (Path Of Exile)

Hi @Rimvydas

I'm sorry to see you're experiencing latency issues again.

Don't know if you remember me

Don't think I could ever forget!

Thanks for reaching back out to us here.

I've tested your line today and our tests aren't showing any issues. Then again they didn't show issues before.

I've added a static IP to your account to change the way your service routes across our network. While I think this didn't help last time, I think it's worth trying to rule out or confirm.

When you're free next before you try a VPN, could you let us know if that makes a difference and also post up another WinMTR please?

Re: Latency issues whilst Gaming (Path Of Exile)

Hi,

Okay so, during lunch time it was absolutely fine. Around 30 minutes ago when i started playing again it was acting up. The ping started going a little crazy however, it stopped after a few minutes. It still spikes to 60 or 150 occasionally, also when sitting in hideout it still seems to spike quite frequently from 18 to 50 or so . One other thing to mention is that I haven't experienced any 'seizures' yet. It's still a better experience than what I had past two weeks.

Here are the WinMTR results taken at 17:00 through the London server -

Re: Latency issues whilst Gaming (Path Of Exile)

Hi,

Short update - It just started lagging really badly again, been getting massive spikes non stop for the past few minutes. This is where i would call is quits for the day because the game is unplayable.

Re: Latency issues whilst Gaming (Path Of Exile)

Hey @Rimvydas

Sorry for the delayed response, I didn't get a chance to pick this up earlier today. Sad

Looks like adding a static IP didn't improve things. I'm assuming you've gone through all the troubleshooting steps you did back in June when you had the issue, like trying an ethernet connection? Might be worth doing a factory reset of the router too.

Failing that would you be able to try connecting through a VPN?

I'll also look into this further tomorrow when I'm back in the office to see if our suppliers can see anything out of place with the S-VLAN and would entertain another move to try to rule that out or confirm it again.

Re: Latency issues whilst Gaming (Path Of Exile)

Hi, @Gandalf

I was just wondering if the static IP has been reverted back because apparently for the majority of yesterday Path of Exile itself and their servers were experiencing major issues. It's actually still an ongoing thing right now, a lot their services are still down, including their website. If it's been reverted back would you mind putting it back on? I'm positive that all the spiking i was getting was due to the servers failing. I will try and do some more testing when Path of Exile itself gets sorted out.

Re: Latency issues whilst Gaming (Path Of Exile)

Hi Rimvydas.

You're definitely still on a static IP from 08:05 20/Nov/2018.

Let me know how it goes once Path of Exile sort the issues they're experiencing out.

@Rimvydas only affecting PoE? Seeing any other issues at all?  If not, I suspect you're right and it's their servers.

Re: Latency issues whilst Gaming (Path Of Exile)

Hi,

Yes it is only PoE. It has been super bad yesterday, some of the servers were completely failing so I had to play on a higher ping one. PoE has been suffering from DDOS attacks past two days now. I've just logged on now, going to go see if they fixed everything. Although i was experiencing lag spikes yesterday i will mention it again that I was no longer experiencing those long lasting lag seizures that literally prevented my character from moving.

Re: Latency issues whilst Gaming (Path Of Exile)

This doesn’t sound good, though it does seem like it may be an issue with PoE.
Keep us posted on how your gaming goes and let us know if you still experience issues once they’ve sorted things out their end.

Re: Latency issues whilst Gaming (Path Of Exile)

Hi,

The issues that PoE was experiencing seem to be fixed. I was playing for a good few hours with my friends and they had no problems. I however, was still experiencing frequent lag spikes. I did a factory reset on the router as well as try playing with a VPN which showed no difference, possibly even more worse depending on the VPN. I always used a wired ethernet connection, i tried playing with Wi-Fi completely switched off which also showed no difference. But yeah, majority of the tests I did in June I've re-tried.

Re: Latency issues whilst Gaming (Path Of Exile)

@Gandalf

Hey, I've been using PingPlotter for few hours whilst playing. I've noticed that I've been getting massive packet loss on my default gateway IP (1st Hop). When ever i get a lag spike in game the ping also spikes up in the program as shown in the top right corner. It's been almost close to 50% packet loss all the time.

Not sure if this is helpful.

Picture 1

Additionally, the two hops before the last one show major latency spikes.
