Connection seems capped at 300mbps

Hi.

I've been having some issues with my speed - since upgrading to the 900 package my line speed has been stuck at around 300, cabling is fine and tried both plusnet's own router + an openwrt router. is it an openreach issue or wondering if this is an issue with my ONT box?

Re: Connection seems capped at 300mbps

@jaysamuel Have you had notification the regrade has completed? What speed does your accounts page say you should be on? It will be nothing to do with the ONT.

Re: Connection seems capped at 300mbps

Nope, never had a notif only that my new plan will be x

I figured it might be the ONT, it's the Nokia R variant with a yellow 1Gbp port and often doesn't even match the spec. The newer orange ones are 2.5 and do.

Re: Connection seems capped at 300mbps

 A bit off my pay scale, but a 1Gb port should handle 900Mb/s

Theoretically, it should on paper but you have overheads, uplink and some of the older ones are bottlenecked. Something only an engineer could test I guess. I was hoping maybe someone at PN had a remote tool to check the line

Re: Connection seems capped at 300mbps

@jaysamuel it's not the ONT. I have a Nokia ONT and it's perfectly capable of handling my 900Mb connection.

Your problem is very likely that the regrade order hasn't completed

Re: Connection seems capped at 300mbps

@jaysamuel

this is a wired connection test?

Not all WiFi adapters are equal, some only give 300mbps connection speeds.

Always testing eth straight to the ONT directly

Re: Connection seems capped at 300mbps

This is probably it. Things haven't been refreshed.

Not sure what is happening with plusnet at the moment, but the employees responded to me about a static IP and not this. Sadly, I've decided to switch after being a customer for 15 years. I feel like BT/EE will swallow it up.

And all the employees of PNET on this forum are great and still are and this is why I stuck with Plusnet.

@jaysamuel

in fairness you do have added to a thread about lossing your IP address.

What is your upload speed for the 900 Mbps product you would expect around 100 Mbps

Re: Connection seems capped at 300mbps

Fix

@jaysamuel Hi there,

Took a quick look into your account to perform the usual checks.

The line test has come back all green and both your account records and the provisioned line records state you are on the 900Mbps product.

I'm unable to check the throughput speeds to the router as you aren't using a plusnet hub by the looks of it.

I dont think it would be the ONT causing the issue regardless of its model and age, if it was one of the old capped 330 ONT's the option of 900 wouldn't be available to you.

My best guess is some form of internal equipment issue causing this, im not 100% but if we can rule out your equipment and full set up not being the issue, we can escalate this to an engineer visit.

All the best

Re: Connection seems capped at 300mbps

I was on that 300m package too.

I think when the kind pnet rep checked my line had cleared any old records

Re: Connection seems capped at 300mbps

You normally need to drop the pppoe connection for it to switch "profiles".  Also issues at Pn/OR profile regrades will cause a similar issue.

I hope Jay's speed issue is now fixed.
