New Customer - lag spikes and packet loss

I had the 500mb package activated exactly one week ago and whilst the lowest and average ping times are significantly better than my Virgin broadband i'd appreciate it if someone could look at my graphs below and let me know how normal (or otherwise they look).

I'm more concerned about the packet loss than the lag spikes, I dont remember ever seeing any packet loss at all on my virgin BB.

@jab1   - please tag @James_B every time you can't help because of blocked images.

This hopeless image censorship is making our ability to help,  not worth the effort any more  !

This is just impossible to work with, and a waste of the moderators time -

@Goobor  -

While we are waiting for your images to be approved by the moderators,

what router were you using when your latency screenshots ? were produced.

also do you have any other models of routers available, that could be tried ?

Re: New Customer - lag spikes and packet loss

@Goobor I am on FTTP ,but with another ISP, and to be honest, those TBB graphs wouldn't give me any cause for concern, unless I was a serious gamer, which I am not. Are they causing you any real-world issues?

Re: New Customer - lag spikes and packet loss

@outcast I'm using the same Asus TUF AX6000 router that I was using with my Virgin SH (in modem mode).

@jab1 No, I haven't noticed anything whilst web browsing, streaming etc but that might just be because I wasn't doing much with the packet loss was happening?

Re: New Customer - lag spikes and packet loss

@Goobor For info, I am using a Fritzbox 7530. My TBB graph from last Monday (as an example:-

I am on an FTTP 145/30 Plusnet connection.  I tried 3 different routers over consecutive days and remarkably different results, my conclusion is that BQM is measuring both Network and Router performance - and it's hard to tell which is responsible for lost pings or response spikes.   I tried the Plusnet Hub2, and old TP-link and a Synology WRX560, the synology showed fewer response spikes but has regular minor dropped pings, the others showed no lost pings but greater response spikes.

As an internet user I could see no real world difference between user experiences, so I have stuck with the Synology as it generally seems faster, is more configurable and runs a media server with file sharing.

BQM is an interesting tool but it can be hard to understand what the results are telling you... there is a page here with a number of BQM graphs HERE  which might be of interest/help.

- although it should be possible to 'tune out' router related spikes or packet loss, by correctly configuring the router's QoS.

I have my router QoS set to limit active download latency increase < 30ms, and active upload latency increase < 10ms,

and typically get a clean plot with no packet loss or raised (blue) average latency, even when maxing out the connection -
