Re: Broadband speed Full Fibre 145

@Townman

There are three basic roaming aggressive levels, the default is Medium. Network Properties might have five settings.

Lowest (1) Device will stick to the current AP until the signal quality is very poor or connection degrades significantly.
Medium (3) The default, balanced setting. The device roams only when necessary for performance.
Highest (5) Device actively and continuously tracks link quality and tries to find and roam to a better AP even when the current signal is still good.

The suggestion to set "Roaming Aggressiveness" to lowest with the "Preferred Band" set to 5GHz is an attempt to prevent the wireless connection switch to 2.4GHz in the first place.

There is always a but, I have found shutting the lid on my HP laptop it switches back to 2.4GHz which odd as the preferred setting is 5GHz, perhaps something to do with power saving.

For me I notice a slowness when connected to 2.4GHz over 5GHz.

Having suffering from the same issue where my HP laptop keeps settling on 2.4GHz rather than 5GHz I've done some further research.

Regardless of the setting setting to "Preferred Band - Prefer 5GHz" I am still occasionally connect to 2.4GHz on first switch on. There is another setting to try

The better way of switching off a radio frequency in a client machine is change the two wireless modes which are at the top of that options list. Change that to 5ghz only and that means you stop the 2.4ghz radio from wroking.

As the 7265 card doesn't support mimo and despite it being a 2x2 desgin, i don't know if that would mean needing different aerials in the laptop if you upgraded to an ax card for instance.

Re: Broadband speed Full Fibre 145

@krusty

Switching off 2.4GHz could result in a poor WiFi experience with laptop NOT being able to connect to an alternative to a weak 5GHz signal.

I would expect the issue is down to the signal strength of both 2.4 and 5GHz being around the same (RSSI) with the WiFi adapter connected to 2.4GHz as it might be the stronger of the two at the point of start up.

Using Preferred Band setting should negate that from happening but sometimes for me it doesn't.

Re: Broadband speed Full Fibre 145

its bouncing between the 2.4ghz and 5ghz bands.

our hands are tied to provide a proper solution.

there are a couple of solutions for him

usb ethernet adapator, and except if he moves from the router to another part of his property that the signal will be low.

he could go with a new 2 unit mesh system (idealy ethernet connected units) that should help him wifi better wifi signals. He might get a better signal with a new router.

All we can do right now is band aid solutions. And yes turning off the 2.4ghz band is a harsh solution.

Re: Broadband speed Full Fibre 145

its bouncing between the 2.4ghz and 5ghz bands.

The reported issue is

I normally get download speeds of around 90 Mbps when I turn my laptop on, but I need to restart the laptop and after that I get speeds of around 145 Mbps, does anyone know why it happens and if it can be sorted so I get speeds of around 145 Mbps without needing to restart all the time?

When I connect my mobile phone to the Wi-Fi I always get speeds of around 145 Mbps.

There is no right or wrong answer, it's down to a preference. For me the subject has been discussed enough now; various options have now been presented it's up to the OP to decide their preferred one.
