Re: 80/20 FTTC Trial Open

My speedtest speeds during the download bounce around a lot. My graph looks like saw teeth. I've seen 57mbps, then maybe 31mbps as final results. I'll wait and see if it settles. Ping is better than it was at 23. It was in the 30s for a while there.

Re: 80/20 FTTC Trial Open

I think that my PPP session dropped and reconnected during the night, although the VDSL modem hasn't resynced.
The BT Speedtester is now reporting my upstream profile as 20Mbps.
However my speeds have dropped are now what I would expect on my 40/10 line before the regrade, i.e. my download never goes above about 38Mbps.  I have tried reconnecting the PPP session this morning without any improvement.  I am just wondering if this is linked in any way to the manual change Adam made to my profile to fix the missing 2.5Mbps I was experiencing?  My line speed is being reported as 20Mb on the portal.

Re: 80/20 FTTC Trial Open

I got exactly the same profile fix (Current Line Speed 20Mb) but it certainly has not caused any limit on download (look back about 3 posts).

Re: 80/20 FTTC Trial Open

My line speed is 20Mbps on the profile but I'm getting 67Mbps download speeds, so it's probably not that. The BT speed tester is working again for me today, for the first time since they changed it (see separate thread) but that only gave me 28Mbps! For info, the profiles are reported as 72.89 down and 20 up. I haven't checked the sync speeds as I haven't unlocked my new modem yet. My estimate, during the brief time when the BT Wholesale Checker was showing them, was 58.1/20.

Re: 80/20 FTTC Trial Open

Actually that's a big gap of nearly 5Mb/s between the IP profile and my highest reported test result. Is this typical for others on the trial?

Re: 80/20 FTTC Trial Open

@KevinG / walker23
Thanks for the replies.  It just seems strange that the speeds I am seeing this morning never go above 40/10.  I've just done a BT Speedtest and this reported speeds of 35/9.98.  Real world downloads also max out at what I would expect from a 40Mbps cap.  The performance of my line looks to be exactly like it is being capped to 40/10.  Last night the download speed was as I would expect given the sync.  From what I can tell the only thing that changed was that the PPP session reconnected.
@dave - would you mind having a look at my profile on yours and BT's systems to make sure there is nothing wrong?  I'm on holiday this week so it's no trouble if you need me to run any tests.

JEB,
does the BT speedtester not report your downstream profile, I can't see it mentioned on your posts?

Re: 80/20 FTTC Trial Open

My profile on the BT Speedtester is from memory 62.85 / 20 which is consistent with my sync speed of 64,525 / 20,000.
This feels exactly the same when the traffic profile wasn't set correctly before and I was missing 2.5Mbps on my 40/10 connection.  I would put good money on my speed being currently capped to 40/10.

Thoroughly jealous... I've not had a response to the ticket yet. Desperately trying to stay patient here.. Wink
@JEB - Have you tried rebooting modem & router? Or does this capped speed now stick across these reboots?

Re: 80/20 FTTC Trial Open

Having now sussed how forum signatures work, i.e. they are not fossilised when a post is made, but retrieved afresh each time, I have realised that putting a speed test result in the signature is a bit daft, so I've taken it out, and here is my latest test on the 80/20 trial for the record:

sync speed of 64,525 / 20,000.

Of course, as you must only use the (locked) BT Openreach modem, you cannot know this figure unless you have a crystal ball or are incredibly accurate at guessing.
For this reason I can only guess that my sync is 72,486 / 20,000 (compared with a previously reported max attainable which I'd guess was about 72,600 or so), I'd also guess that my upstream maximum attainable is currently 32,009 so, although I'm not maxing out the downstream I do have some 'spare' on the upstream (assuming my guesses are correct  Wink )

Looking good Kevin, ping's more like it too.
If you could just get a 'decent' upload speed....  Lips_are_sealed
still only 'faster than 99% of GB', what do you need to do to get 100%??  Crazy
