Update PTR record

I need my PTR record updated - can I manage this myself or do I need to contact support?

Yes you do.

Superusers are not staff, but they do have a direct line of communication into the business in order to raise issues, concerns and feedback from the community.

Re: Update PTR record

I wish someone would tell Support that. "That's not something we do"..."we don't offer static IP addresses"..."it's really not something we do anymore". And then after a 5 minute wait whilst they consulted with someone, "we're not able to do that anymore for static IP addresses."

Back in the day I could log a ticket and this would be done in an hour. It's harder and harder to get any type of useful support, and with my bandwidth half of what it was 3 years ago I think this is probably the last contract I sign with Plusnet.

Anyway - and sorry to ask - is there anything you can do to help me get this simple DNS record change done?

Re: Update PTR record

Of course they can - I don't blame the advisor, she clearly had no idea what I was talking about and no one to give her any advice - but I just got an email saying "we cannot make any changes to the static IP address, just adding or removing".  Sigh...

(Thank you!!) 😊

Re: Update PTR record

What are you actually wanting to be done? Is it an rDNS change?

Re: Update PTR record

It was pointing at a domain, but I've changed to be ip.plus.com. It should be complete by tomorrow AM once DNS records have updated.

Re: Update PTR record

Hi Tony, no no no, that's even worse and will block all my mail services!

Could you please change it to mail.rikofold.co.uk.

Sorry, on reflection it might have helped if I specified what I needed!

I'm in the process of migrating mail services away from my own server, long overdue tbh, so will come back when that's done to change the PTR record once and for all, terminate the static IP, and go back to being someone who won't confuse your colleagues anymore! 😀
