email problems - receiving

Is it just me, or is the mail service down?  My email address is, for historical reasons, a globalnet one but it's delivered (or not, currently) by Plusnet (following their swallowing-up of first globalnet, then madasafish).  I've had my email address for over 25 years, and I'd like to keep it.

I send and receive mail from my Windows PC and MS:Outlook via (I think) POP3, so download messages locally (to a PST file).  (I also have a gmail account which I use less frequently and from my iPad, but the globalnet one is my mainstay).  I have only very rarely used plusnet webmail to access my globalnet mail when away, mainly because I want to keep a permanent record (or at least control) via my MS:Outlook client.

On Sunday 25th May I suddenly stopped receiving emails.  I have tested and discovered that I can still send, but not receive emails.

When I checked webmail I found an email dated 10/05/25 to tell me that because I hadn't accessed webmail for a while, my mail was being archived, and inviting me to say if I'd like it unarchived.  I hoped that this might resolve the bigger email problem, or at least enable me to access the 'missing' emails, so I confirmed that I would like it unarchived, and a "ticket" was raised on 28th May.  But nothing has changed; no email to my PC-based MS:Outlook client, nor to my webmail.

Getting a little desperate, now.  Can anybody tell me what is/might be happening, please?

@plusnettony

Is this related to migration preparation?

Re: email problems - receiving

I don't even know what 'migration preparation' is.  Should I have received something from Plusnet?

No, not until the migration actually starts.

What 'migration'?

I haven't asked to migrate anywhere, and I've heard nothing from Plusnet.

And would that cause these problems?

It's becoming increasingly problematic/silly, now

Re: email problems - receiving

No - never seen this before.

I would expect Plusnet to have mentioned it at some point if such a change was being considered.

And I called their support on 28th May, when they said they would 'unarchive mail', but there's been no change, and now I'm getting mssages from others saying that my ISP is rejecting emails with 'error:"5".

It's almost two weeks now since Plusnet just pulled my email plug without warning.

Re: email problems - receiving

Do you have your own domain name?

Do not recognise error 5 - error codes are usually 3 digits.  You need a first hand error message.  Do you have another email account you can send a test email from?

Re: email problems - receiving

I do still have a couple of domain names but I do not, and never, used them for email.

I have a gmail account, and I've tried sending messages from it to my globalnet account.  I've just sent another.  Nothing.  And no messages returned.  the "error: 5" message was reported (via SMS) from giffgaff.

I am attaching an image of the response I received from PN support

Re: email problems - receiving

I've had a response to my email from my gmail account - image attached.  The MIME attachment merely said 'Test 3'.

So, it seems that my (Globalnet) email address no longer exists!

'Migration'.  What a shambles.

Not from what I've seen thus far.

Re: email problems - receiving

It sounds like your Global email box is full. They'll bounce when it's full. Global aren't archived. .

Plusnet email's are archived if not used or if the mailbox is full..

Re: email problems - receiving

That certainly sounds feasible.  I had just returned from holiday and on that day (Sunday 25/5) I was sending photographs from my gmail account to my globalnet account to save on the HD, and then deleting the emails (and also deleting the deleted files).

If it IS the cause, how do I get it back up and running?

Re: email problems - receiving

If it is that, just log in to webmail and you'll see your email there - delete it, and again in the deleted items.

I suspect, you're downloading via pop3 with keep a copy on server for x days selected.
