"Plusnet's primary focus has always been providing broadband services, and we have never been nor wanted to be a dedicated email provider."
Recollections may differ. The inserted word 'dedicated' is simply (and possibly intended) a way to weasel out of the reality.
I went back to my original order and welcome pack with PlusNet - 8 Feb 2009 it was. Broadband and Email were given equal weight, indeed as was the landline. Indeed, looking at my final bill before I had to leave, for EE, a few months ago, Broadband was actually billed as £0 - according to PlusNet I was paying Line Rental only. She can "re-interpret" the numbers and "re-interpret" history as much as she likes, but PlusNet offered a Broadband / Landline / Email bundle whilst billing only for the Landline with Broadband and Email both free. That does not show a we have never wanted to be a[n] .. .email provider. business strategy.
Anyway, it makes no difference now, but it's interesting to compare today's corporate jangle with yesterday's marketing (and billing) reality. Perhaps customers have longer memories than here-today-gone-tomorrow employes.

Bear in mind I wasn't an enthusiastic supporter of the original letter - because I couldn't see what the real object was - beyond expressing frustration, which might be understandable. Indeed, the reply from Plusnet and Greenby are pretty well exactly in line with what I would have expected (and I don't mean that cynically). Mostly, IMO, what they both had to say was already well known and has been discussed on this forum, one way or another.
"Chatgpt suggests this response to Plusnet:"
"I also remain disappointed that affected customers have not been proactively informed about this situation. The explanation Greenby has now provided to me would have answered a great deal of the confusion being expressed on the Plusnet Community forum had it simply been communicated to customers directly."
Here - on better communication about the issues from the two parties involved, Plusnet and Greenby - I think is a valid point.

Yes - all the email addresses on the account, whether it be [email protected] or anything@domain get transferred. You may have mailboxes set up, or you may have catchall (anything before the @ sign).
Thanks Tony.
As regards catch-alls, I'm not sure how that agrees with the email I've had from Plusnet:
Quote:
If you send email using a "from email address" that isn’t registered as a mailbox or alias please you can register these aliases via the Plusnet Manage My Mail tool against your catch-all mailbox before migration. You can register the aliases HERE, or via the Greenby website after migration. [*]
I think Tony is referring to incoming emails. When receiving incoming email, custom reply-to addresses I've given to other people will still work, and their replies will continue to go to my catch-all without me having to do anything further? Presumably redirects I've set up will also still work, including to blackhole@...?
But Plusnet's email is referring to a from email address that isn't registered. I think it's saying I now have to register that as an alias, if I want to send outgoing email from it. I can see that might be desirable to deter spam.
But how do I register a from address "against my catch-all"? Isn't catch-all about catching incoming emails to unregistered addresses, rather than outgoing?
Have I misunderstood something?

You create an alias to the catch-all mailbox name.
Superusers are not staff, but they do have a direct line of communication into the business in order to raise issues, concerns and feedback from the community.

What?! Are you saying catch-alls will, once migrated to Greenby, have to be set up manually, ie each and every address I may have used that currently gets "caught" and sent to my catch-all address now has to be set up as an alias? I have hundreds!!!

No!
Catch all will still work for RECEIVING mail for any address. However if you wish to send mail FROM an address , then that address must be defined as either a mailbox or an alias

@MisterW Thank you for clarifying that. That's still going to be a pain but nowhere near as much as I was fearing for a minute there.

I have email, hosting and domain with Plusnet and just got my email regarding migration last Friday. It gives a start date of 6th September for the transfer of mailboxes, so you may have received your email by now too!. Hope this helps.

Thank you, that's much clearer than Plusnet's original. Catch-all is about receiving mail. Not about sending it, which will have to be set up as a separate mailbox or alias.

I posted this in a new thread last week but only got one of my queries answered. Can anyone please help with the others?
I have been notified that my email and domain will transfer to Greenby from 6 Sep. Although I have diligently read all the notes and threads on this topic I am still uncertain about some aspects, and would appreciate guidance.
1. How do I access email setup on the current plus.net site, so I can check my current settings? I can't seem to find my way there now. [Answered - thank you!]
2. I use Outlook Classic on my PC to access email via SMTP and POP. Am I correct I won't need to change any of these settings? Ditto for IMAP on iPhone / iPad?
3. My main concern. I have a domain (mydomain.com) which is registered with Fasthosts and hosted by Plusnet. Nameservers are set in Fasthosts to ns1.force9.net. I don't have a webspace but my family and I use numerous email accounts using addresses like [email protected]. Continuous access to these emails is fairly existential, as they are our main source of 2FA. Will these emails continue to function seamlessly on all the various devices (PC / Mac / iPhone / iPad) we use?
4. I am spooked by the bit in the warning email that says "you will need to change the nameservers from the Plusnet name servers to the Greenby name servers once your email has migrated". This seems to be a chicken and egg situation. How will I even see Greenby's welcome email if it is sent to [email protected], when the nameservers are still pointing at Plusnet but the domain has transferred to Greenby hosting? Surely this and all my other email will be lost until the nameserver is changed in Fasthosts to point to Greenby? Reassurance on this point would be welcome!
5. Is the warning that emails might be lost for 24 hours a norm or an upper bound? What has been the experience of people in similar situations who have already migrated?
Sorry if these are naïve questions. I would greatly welcome assistance.

I can get my email down from Greenby via their web portal, entering my PN email login.
My emails currently come to Outlook.
Am I going to have to tell Outlook the new email settings for Greeby at some point?
Where can I find them?
My user name and password to log into the Greenby site are not working yet.
I need to sort out access to the PN webspace that had been borked for ages.
I get an error message saying when my migration is done the username and password will work.
If I can see email there, isn't it done already?
