Setting up Email on an iPhone After Greenby Migration

I just had to set up the email for a new iPhone, for a mailbox like [email protected]. There are instructions at
https://www.plus.net/help/archive/email/ios-setup/

However they say to use "username" for the User Name for the incoming Mail Server. That works for me for the [email protected] account, but for a different mailbox I need to use [email protected] instead.

These are the instructions I followed:

=========

If your name is Joe Bloggs, with an email address of [email protected]

Press the Settings icon on the iPhone desktop

Type Mail

Click Mail apps

Click Mail Accounts

Click Add Account

Click Other

Click Add Mail Account

Name: Joe Bloggs
Email: [email protected]
Password: <your_password>
Description: Plusnet email

Click Next

Click on the IMAP button at the top of the page

Incoming Mail Server
Host Name: mail.plus.net
Username: [email protected]
Password: <your_password>

Outgoing Mail Server
Host Name: relay.plus.net
Username: [email protected]
Password: <your_password>

It will then show "Verifying" whilst it tests the settings. If it fails, it will ask if you want to try without SSL. Click Yes.

Then click Save

Switch to the Mail App and see the new mailbox.

=========

This will hopefully help someone else avoid using the useless Greenby AI chatbot.

To protect your email credential you must use encryption on both the inbound and outbound email servers.

Selecting No to SSL suggest not doing this, thus exposing your username / password every few minutes.

How to do you make that change to the settings from an iPhone?

It says "Cannot Connect Using SSL".

From Outlook on Windows, there is an option to change the encryption method to SSL/TLS and that works for me. I don't see an option to do that on an iPhone.

The encryption modes and server ports need to match:

POP3 : SSL/TLS via Port 995

IMAP : SSL/TLS via Port 993

SMTP : STARTTLS via Port 587

or SMTP : SSL/TLS via Port 465
